So as always the server is down and I have nothing better to do then make post. The question I throw to the fleet under this period of boredom is regarding ships. Does anyone else have a problem deciding on which ship they want to use?

Having made a general build successful for escorts and cruiser I can never decide what to use. I honestly find myself swapping ships almost everyday.

Fleet Defiant (the mighty North Carolina)
Akira HEC
Chimera (new to the list)
Sovereign Refit
Excelsior (least switched to)

Those are the ones I'm always switching between. I really enjoy all 5, but it gets tiring always switching. Sooooooooo out of boredom and the fact I'm like a 5 year old kid when it comes to which toy he wants, I made a poll for fun.

<< Jason's face no comment << Shack's face

Edit: Renamed thread for poll purposes.

Sir, long before there was a Star Trek Online, I was a fan of Treknology, especially the ships. For many years, I was a member of the "Galactic Engineer's Concordance", a fan group that published schematics and a newsletter that investigated the minutia of warp cores, nacelles, ship design, etc. In short, I LOVE Trek ships.

So, why NOT change ships regularly? Sure, I have a main, for the fleet registry, but part of the fun of STO is being able to captain multiple vessels. Tackling various missions with different vessels breathes fresh life into them.

I've heard people snub various ships and builds as not being efficient or über. So what? Sometimes I want to just have fun flying around in my constitution. Sounds like you do too and I think that's great!

BTW, I voted for the Chimera but only because I think it looks so damned cool!

I'll still fly them all. This is more or less for fun I don't have a problem one bit with my ships not being efficient FYI wink

What i've decided to do is keep my tac in an escourt, engineer in a cruiser, and my science officer in a science ship. This way I can build by officer for the ship class they fly and instead of swapping parts between ships all I have to do is switch toons.

tl;dr version: I usually choose to fly something I like or think looks cool. Concept comes first.

Grron flies a Fleet Rhose Island Class. As far as I can tell this is the federation equivalent of choosing to fly a slightly sturdier B'rel. Why? Three Reasons. When leveling up Gerron I grew very attached to how fast and maneuverable to Nova class was. Second I liked teh name I came up for the ship. Finally when I saw the fleet version of the ship I saw that it had a Lt Commander Tactical slot and thoght 'Hey wait a minute, I can put Attack Pattern Omega on that and make it even zippier. So I decided to get the fastest, most defensive, and Stealthy ship I could possibly make and still maintain some sort of battlefield relevance.

Q'loveH flies a B'rel. Turns out I hate flying B'rels but I stay in it because a B'rel named yaybom is waht Q'loveH flew when he was my character on the ATS Trekmush.

Ssla'vath flis the Gorn ships. I currently have him in a Veranus. This has forced me to alter how I play the game since the gorn ships sem tailor made for Fleet support. I 'm still learnign that role but I am happy because I'm in a Gorn ship and the Gorn ship are IMO the best lookign ships in the game.

Klaxem is a Nauscican As a result I fly Nauscican ships. Nauscican ships seems tailor made to drain any and all energy from his opponent. This is a strategy I think sounds cool so I am embracing it whole heartedly.

Torin will be flying a Star Cruiser. He flies this because I originally made the character to join a fleet that was centered around one ship one crew. Back when ship interiors were first released we decided we wanted to try doing some Roleplay as the crew of the USS Challenger. Torin was Chief Engineer and Later made First officer of the ship. I spent a lot of time working out the technical details of the ship. how it worked. How the holographiv platforms that explained why there was 4 other ships in space worked.

How the Power core worked. This last one was the only part of the ship I was at odds with everyone else about. I wanted the ship to be in a Star Cruiser because it looks big enough to actually hold all this equipment we were shoving into the Challenger. They wanted to put it in a Galaxy because, at the time, the Saucer seperating Galaxy was teh new sexy. I always hated that idea since adding saucer seperation in addition to everything else made absolutly no sense. Especially from a Powerplant standpoint. The fleet itself ended up dissolving over Drama about as fast as it began, Literally the first outing. So Now Torin is alone and as far as I'm concerned the Challenger project was scrapped and Torin was tasked with making the Prototype servicable. Since the systems are so Unique Torin was made Captain of the new Challenger and I decided that the Prototype was a Star Cruiser Happy. I also intend to make its power core a primary feature. I hope to make it extremely difficult to actually power drain the thing since It should have a powerplant big enough to run 5 ships inside of it.

Starbuck Flies a TOS Constitution. Mainly because I like having a character that wears the TOS uniforms and I use him for TOS tuesdays.

My Romulan T'maec will be using a D'deridex becasue D'deridex ships look cool.

My second klingon character, whose name actually escapes me at the moment, will be using Battlecruisers because I felt like I neglected that line when leveling up Q'loveH. and I like the waya Vor'cha looks.

My Orion Slave Girl will eventually be using the Orion ships when I finally get around to playing her again. Right now I have enough other Alts to mess with and I think I deleted her to make a second romulan to run Romulan missions with Zecharious.

My Caistion will be flying the Caitian Carrier because I love the way it looks and I tinkered around wiht it as Gerron when the Carriers first came out.

I am concidering getting two more character slots so that I can make my Second Romulan a more permenant part of my Collection and explore Fed Side Romulan play. I would end up putting her in the Romulan Equivilent of a Science ships since I am currently playing her as a Strait medic.

I am also wanting to devote a character to the Escort Line Federation side. I've played with it a bit as Gerron and I was originally going to take Starbuck down that line before I fell in love wiht making him a TOS guy. I don't have a clear Idea on what species or race I want to make him though. so I'm a bit stalled on actually doing this.

Oh. and Inquizitor, my first character, flies Cruisers. He currently Flies a Soveregn and I am concidering putting him in an Oddesey. This is just the captain I always wanted to mak growing up. If I could put him in a Tier V Connie I would do so in a heartbeat.

Anywho that is the detailed breakdown on why I fly what I fly.

I say go for the Akira HEC. It would be something your not used to using regularly - something new to master. Having the carrier hangar as a tool adds a different dimension to the fight.

I've been using my Akira a lot actually. I won my 3rd wargame with it In fact that's what the Timberwolf currently is.

This will be the ship you use in the next wargames?

hmm. A Tuffli Freighter? Happy

EDIT: More to the point of what you are asking it is hard for me to really pick a ship for you. The ship you fly as your main ship is a more personal affair to me. All the ships you have chosen have their strengths and weaknesses. From a standpoint of what would I want you to use in the wargames. I suppose it depends on what you are after. Of those 5 the only ship I see that would be "hardest" to use would be the Sov. If you are wanting to roflstomp everything I would imagine any of the tactical ships would work.

What is it you are wanting with the USS Timberwolf. Are you looking for something with story implications? Are you wanting to expand your horizons and try something new? Are you wanting the best PvP ship you can find? What ship do you picture Captain Huck commanding when you think of the Timberwolf?

None of the above would also be my choice. They are all good ships, but instead of swapping out daily, swap out once a week. You a great selection of ships and with your talent for building plus piloting skill, any would be awesome in battle.

Thank you for posting, as I have the same problem as well, i.e., liking to fly different ships in my fleet. I may not have the skills nor equipment, but it is more like the found memories attached to flying various ships.

Have the same problem when deciding which beer to buy, as I like many, but usually the one on sale gets my business that day.

To further clarify, this is mainly for fun. To allow the fleet to say "Hey I'd like to see Huck call that ship his main" Main=Roleplay purpose, ship I call my "official" command.

I'm still going to fly all my ships, just going to fly majority of my time in what's picked. Basically I can't decide what I want my main to be, so went with some interactive fun with it. :-). No way will this shelf my others. I should of clarified better in OP that I'm completely clueless what ship I want to be "known" for. If that makes any better sense.

Anything that can be had from any of those ships, I've already done to my best extent. So once again this is for fun since I can't decide on my own. Evil knows what I'm talking bout, he can tell ya how many times he's heard "I'm going to make this ship my main/Timber wolf" wink
