I'm flying in Odyssey tactical cruiser designed for area effect attacks with decent defensive capabilities. I'm noticing that I tend to lose crew rapidly in combat, even when I seem to be managing my shields effectively.

I'm seeking suggestions on what skills, devices and load outs directly impact crew survivability. Thanks!

As far as I know the only thing that is effected by crew is the passive Hull repair... and in an Odyssey u should have enough hull heals and crew to begin with no?

I am flying an escort and I have finished STFs with 0 crew men left alive....

anyways... here are 2 consoles that should effect ur crew.

Science console - Biofunction Monitor: improves the recovery rate

Engineering console - Emergency Force Fields: increases the crew's resistance to damage

here r the two wiki sites to the consoles, so that u can have a look:

Moved to general reference forums. The engineering forums are for real technical issues (game is crashing, etc).

As far as the crew goes, maybe I'm bad captain, but I hardly pay attention to it. There are consoles you can use to help with crew issues, though:

Emergency Force Fields (Engineering): Increases crew damage resistance
Biofunction Monitor (Science): Increases crew recovery rate

Thing is, using either of these means giving up a console slot that you could be using for something better. Most seasoned captains are going to stack some kind of armor in their engineering slots (neutronium is popular), and stack Field Generators in their science slots. These consoles make your overall ship survivability much greater than normal, which supersedes crew issues.

Mr. Shackelford,
Thanks for moving this out of Engineering. As you said Engineering is for the more technical side of PC repair, Hardware/Software issues with the game launcher.exe or other files in the game that can corrupt and cause issues, we Engineers could also field this question. But Mr. Shackelford is right in saying, you need to look at you slots and what you have in them.

What you need to do is think in terms of multiple use of consoles Hull and Armor plate protect the ship and the crew. Or Polarize Hull (Science BOff) will do a number of things that protect the crew - with effectiveness based on the level of Aux Power.

The other thing that I fall prey to is not moving fast enough. There is an automatic buff you get for moving faster, but there is also the opposing factor of moving too fast that you cannot target your enemy. This whole game is about being able to balance multiple things as you are juggling others. We are all here to help with whatever questions you have, and by no means am I an expert on the devices I have on my ship, but what you will do is learn to have one setup for PvP, and one for PvE and yet another for solo missions. And you will learn to have a different ship for each, or to have the ability to swap gear quickly and setup your BOffs in the process. Again, of which I am still learning and by no means am an expert at or on.

My expertise is in doing HW/SW - tech support for the fleet. And, I do go to the experts for advise for game play. I suggest FCPT Ganoslal is a good starting point, as being the first point in fleet training.

Happy Hunting,
JT

I haven't tested to see if alive crew affects repair speed to a great degree in battle yet.

I do know that PW overpowered the Human leadership skill so that most players use only Human bridge officers instead of efficient Saurians now. Its a significant enough of a boost that I rarely hit a hull heal at all anymore in elite STFs.

Thanks for all the input and my apologies for posting in the wrong forum. Our training officer spent a lot of time with me in game yesterday, working on my build. I seem to be doing much better now and am working on mastering some new tactics. Happy
