re: Borg Invasion of Defera (easiest way to get 240+ Fleet mks)

0

The Borg Invasion of Defera was one of the first, "open world," ground zones introduced into STO.  It features several different areas with their own missions/objectives, ranging in difficulty from Easy, to Medium, to Hard.  Each of the missions labelled with a difficulty will reward both Fleet Marks, and Omega Marks.  The Easy missions reward the least, 13 fleet marks, and 5 Omega, while the hards reward 60 fleet marks, and 10 omega.

You can go to Defera as early as level 10.  You can transwarp to Defera if you have Omega Rep Tier 1 complete.

For this guide, I am going to focus on the hard missions, of which there are four.  It is quite possible to run through the four missions in under 20 minutes, for a total of 240 fleet marks, and 40 Omega marks.  You can do this once per day per character.

You will need at least a team of three to run these missions, and I highly recommend going with an engineer or two.

Map

Walkthrough

  1. Base Camp
    1. There are four quest givers.  Visit each of them and obtain each of their Hard mission.  Feel free to grab any additional missions that you want.  Some missions are labelled as, "zone," missions, and some of those missions can/will be completed simply by doing the Hard missions.  (kill Borg)  The zone missions do not reward Fleet or Omega marks.
    2. Be sure to get yourself a Frequency Remodulator.
      1. You can make one with your replicator, or you can get one from the general/admiral in the middle of base camp.  (both are free)  Be sure to drag it to a device slot.
      2. You can craft a "Fractal Remodulator," with the items that you obtain in the Defera missions.  You need 50 of each resource.  The Fractal Remodulator is 1 second faster than a standard Frequency Remodulator.
      3. If you have a full Omega, Maco, or Klingon set, or if you use melee weapons, you don't need a remodulator.
    3. Before you leave base camp, you should have the following:
      1. Borg Frequency Remodulator (or equivalent)
      2. Mission - Temple: Uninvited Guests [Hard]
      3. Mission - Probe: Counter Offensive [Hard]
      4. Mission - Power Plant: Getting to the Bottom of Things [Hard]
      5. Mission - City: Knowledge is Key [Hard]
    4. When you are ready, head for the Temple teleporter.
  2. Temple: Uninvited Guests (Hard)
    1. The first objective is the temple.  Use the teleporters in the base camp to get to the temple teleport destination.
    2. From the teleport exit, head SW towards the temple. (path is indicated by yellow lines on map)
    3. At the top of the temple is an item that starts the quest.  Click on it to get started.
    4. Borg start spawning at the base of the stairs.
    5. As time passes, borg will spawn further and further up the stairs.  Kill each new group as fast as possible and take up position higher up the temple.
    6. The last few waves will spawn at the base of the last flight of stairs.  Shortly after the last group is defeated, the mission will end.  A purple mission item will drop indicating that the quest is complete.  (each person will get their own drop)
  3. Probe: Counter Offensive (Hard)
    1. Little caveat, this mission completes whenever ANYONE in the zone finishes it.  So it is possible that you won't need to do it.  Check with the other people in your party.  If it is complete for everyone, just move on to the Power Plant.
    2. From the base of the temple, head North West.  (follow the light blue lines on map)  There will be a small tower at which you begin the Probe quest.
    3. The quest will spawn a huge Gorn/Borg soldier, and many supporting borg drones.  Kill em all.  Mission finished.
  4. Power Plant: Getting to the Bottom of Things (Hard)
    1. From the Probe Mission, head NE to the Power Plant (indicated by the green lines on the map)  You can ignore the huge group of borg marching on the temple spawn area, they will not aggro.
    2. Once you get to the Power Plant, go to Sublevel 3 - [Hard]
    3. There are three large rooms on this level, each room will start the quest for a different group, so make sure that your entire group is in one of the rooms before clicking on the item that starts the quest.
    4. Use the Power Plant Core Chamber Console to start the quest.  Once you do this, a Force Field will block the entrance door, so make sure your whole group is inside before you start it.
    5. Wave 1 - A very strong borg will come from the middle of the room, while several standard drones will come from the different elevated stairways.  Kill everything.
    6. Wave 2 - The strong borg will come back again, but this time, more powerful borg drones will come from the stairs.  Kill it all.
    7. Wave 3 - Strong borg is back again, this time mortars will spawn around the room.  The mortars are evil.  They are protected by shields.  Take down the shields to kill the mortars.
    8. Once you've eliminated wave 3, the mission item will spawn at the door, and the forcefield blocking the door will go away.  Sometimes this will happen before you kill everything in wave 3.
  5. City: Knowledge is Key (Hard)
    1. Exit the Power Plant, and head west.  (follow the dark blue line on the map)
    2. You will need to snake your way around the city.  Most of the borg will not aggro, but in the interests of time, if you do get aggro, just keep running.  The Dark Blue lines indicate the best path, with the fewest elite tactical drones, so try to use that path.
    3. Once you get to the mission area, there will be lines of deferi trapped in borg chambers.  At the end of these lines is the item that starts the mission.  Once everyone in your group is assembled, hit the item.
    4. Caveat 1 - This mission is usually bugged.  You will typically twiddle your thumbs until the last phase of the mission.  The big cylindrical thingy on top of the borg chambers will indicate the mission progress.  First wave is green, second wave is yellow, third wave is red.
    5. Green Phase - Several borg drones will spawn.  Kill them.  You will also need to free several Deferi from the borg chambers.
    6. Yellow Phase - Several borg and Deferi drones will spawn.  You need to eliminate them all.  When you take a Deferi down to 0 health, you need to run up to them and tag them for beam out.
    7. Caveat 2 - In the final phase, the person who started the quest needs to be alive when the last borg is defeated.  If the person is dead, the whole party will not get credit for the quest.
    8. Red Phase - Several Elite Tactical Drones and Fullly Assimilated Deferi will spawn.  Kill them all.
    9. A quest item will spawn near the end of the row, where the mission is started.  Once everyone gets the item, you're done.
  6. Base Camp
    1. Once you're finished with the hard missions, return to base camp to turn in the quests and get your rewards.
      1. 240+ Fleet marks.
      2. 40+ Omega Marks.
      3. 4 loot boxes (with mk X borg ground gear)

 Crafting

There is a crafting vendor on Defera in the base camp.  There are three commodities that drop on Defera that you can use to craft items at the vendor.  There are also crafting quests that reward XP and additional crafting materials.  If you are running Defera regularly, you can easily level up your general crafting skill by doing these crafting missions.  You can also craft a Fractal Remodulator, which will come in handy if you don't have a full Borg ground set.
