re: Crafting Levels For the new Upgrade kits

Since, with Delta Rising, we will be able to upgrade our gear with these new Upgrade kits, I thought it best we start keeping a list of those who are going through the R&D System so we can easily identify who we can get upgrade kits from. Please post if you are going through the R&D system and what you are focusing on. I'll start and will try and update my post as more people post so that they are all together and people do not have to hunt through the thread...

Anton Mercer:

Engineering: LVL 11

All others: LVL 6

Personally, I'm pretty far along the R&D system (as far as one can get without dumping dilithium into it), but I'll be honest - I intend to take full advantage of people who aren't.  I have a feeling upgrade kits are going to worth a lot of EC on launch day, and my first several rounds will going up on the exchange to maximize profitability.

See, the thing is - you aren't going to NEED them.  I have no doubts that you can successfully get through the content with the tricked out ships you have now.  Mark 14's aren't a requirement, except in the mind of the player who judges their self worth by the gear they have.  And those people can give me their EC while the issue is hot, and I'll 'muddle' through the episodes with my T5 ship and my mk 12 rep sets.  The game has been around long enough where most players have forgotten what it's like to have to level without twinking, and so they are going to see twinking their toons as required.  I intend to fill my war coffers with their EC.

Once it dies down and I've made my money and upgraded my own equipment, then we can talk about making items for the fleet.  If this comes off as selfish, so be it - but when I am making items for fleetmates, I will be doing it for free.  Just don't expect 'free' to also be 'immediate.'

In any case, here are my current levels:

I suspect I'm one of a relative few in the fleet focusing on ground weapons.

There's nothing wrong with that. But some people do not have the EC(yes there are and i'm included) to go directly to the exchange to buy the upgrade kits when they want to upgrade. I started the thread based on this, and the fact that even after the "market rush" has died down, people will still want/need to get these kits. This way, with a list, the fleetmates do not have to hunt the exchange or find someone in-game through any channel, but can go to fleetmates directly from the list.

I understand.  I'm just setting expectations.  My character is capable, but don't come to me on day one and expect me to start dumping upgrade kits in your lap.

I've also managed to pick up these guys so far:

Not sure if R&D specialists are required for upgrade kits.  From top to bottom, these are Beam, Ground, and Engineering specialists.

So there's an opportunity to increase one's cash flow by crafting?  Even better, exploiting the unwashed and ignorant masses of STO.  Yep, works for me!

Rule of Acquisition #13:  Anything worth doing is worth doing for money.

Currently, all my toons (seven) are about level 8/9 in Engineering and Science and level five (plus) on all other categories.  Since I have no idea what I'm doing, I just do the 20 hour R&D project.   Guess I need to spend some time and really figure this crafting thing out.

In the future, should probably have a separate forum "Subject" just for crafting, in which Fleet members can promote themselves and their crafting specialty.

Rule of Acquisition #41:  Profit is its own reward.

Cheers

I've been playing on tribble...upgrades can be crafted at a relatively low R&D lvl and don't even take that many high end mats...not sure on the basic upgrade but the advanced crafts a stack of 3 pieces which is pretty nice.

Starting to break some into 11, and a lot more multiples at 10.
