re: New Dawn and Admiralty System

0

So with the Iconian Arc coming to a disappointing close I was thinking about what is to come. New Dawn is supposed to have the Admiralty system where we use the other ships during missions (at least as I understand it). So would it be a good idea to start stocking up on T5,T5U, and T6 ships? Are we going to need MK XIV gear for those ships? And has anyone heard or know of how the admiralty system will be integrated into the Fleet actions? I can only assume that since Fleets are such a big part of STO that at some point, if not initially, it will be.

I realize this has been more of a question that a suggestion, but for those of us who aren't as savvy, or experienced with different types of ships (I've only ever flown escorts) there may or may not be a rather large learning curve when it comes to understanding how to use those ships properly. Perhaps some sort of guide/tutorial would be helpful...maybe I am over thinking this. I don't know.

Thanks,

SC

Update: I decided to do a quick search via the interwebs and from what I've read the system is more like the doff system (which is kind of sad) or we just don't know yet. Either way I guess I'm holding off on buying a whole fleet of T6 ships.

My understanding is that you don't need anything.  It is supposed to give people who happen to have a large stable of ships they don't fly a reason to pull some of them out of mothball.  Of course, your average MMO player being what they are, this option will likely be seen the community as something they are being forced to do rather than a perk.

Here's a link to a reddit chat I found: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/3gdkoi/some_new_insight_on_the_admiralty_system/

Apparently a Dev (at least I think it's a Dev) tweeted a few comments about the system.I guess we'll just have to wait and see. if you can make through some of the comments another poster (Dev?) explains why it can't be more involved. Something to do with ships taking up a lot of space on the server....I know enough about computers to get myself in trouble so I don't know.

Well, I'm not usually one to piss on Cryptic, but if the ships they are selling are taking up too much space on the server, then they can use all the goddamn money they made by selling them to buy more fucking server space.

can't argue with that logic . . . or a superior officer, lol.

I think this ties in well with the discussion about the Iconian Arc and how the COULD have done something and chose not to. Even if they couldn't allow the actual ships in our inventory, rather than have another doff mini-game, why couldn't they use the same system as hangar pets. Only instead of hangar pets, it's our "ships". It really is frustrating to see how much more this game could be with a little more effort. Maybe I'm talking out of my fourth point of contact here, but it seems to me like of unlike console games, STO has the ability to be updated/upgrade as needed without a releasing a new platform or media. If cryptic so desired they could offer a much more immersive and ever-changing environments, and interactive gameplay with little to no down time. People our shelling out $60+ a month for console games and then some if you factor in DLC. I for one would much rather pay a membership fee for a game that I know will continue to offer mea rewarding gaming experience. Don't get me wrong, I love STO and since I joined the 7th it has become even more fun  . . . now I'm rambling. I'm sure I haven't said anything novel anyways.
