This is just a reminder, as part of your benefits of either being in the military, or as a retiree, Military Hops are available with various airlines at a discount, or if it is an actual military flight - it us usually FREE!!!
I say this to make more of you contemplate going to the Convention in Chicago. If you think airfare is an issue, this may be a way to save those costs. Think about it.

PS: O'Hare has a Reserve Air Station at the airport minutes away from the Hotel.

Another thought, if it is easier to fly into Scott AB on a Hop from your location, I have space in my RAV4 for 2 to drive up with Davis and myself (about 5 hrs. from St. Louis to Chicago). And I have 2 twin beds in our spare bedroom if you arrive on Sept. 7th. Davis and I are leaving St. Louis early to do the "Early Check-In" Thursday night.

Good information, just be aware that those hops, aka "Space-A (Space Available)" may not have many seats. Those seats are given out based on category (highest being emergency leave, followed by active on orders, then active on leave, and at the bottom are retired military) and then first come first serve within that category. They're great if it's not a flight in great demand, or you have no real timetable for where you're trying to get to. Not trying to rain on the parade, just making sure folks know what they're getting themselves in to.

Usually pretty tough to get most of those flights, but thanks for the reminder.

It was just a thought. I used to catch them going back and forth between Germany and the US when on leave, during the 90's. The run I use was from Hanau, Germany to Dover AB to Scott AB, but those were true military flights. Usually C-130 Cargo over the Atlantic and military medical flights between US airbases.
