re: Part 1: Introduction to Humanoids

Humanoids are intelligent, bilaterally symmetrical, bipedal with an upright posture and two arms, two legs, hands, feet, a single thorax, neck and a head containing the brain. Lifeforms of this type can be found throughout the galaxy, with examples including the name-sake Humans, Cardassians, Vulcans (and, thus, Romulans), Klingons, Betazoids, Andorians, Bajorans, and Bolians. Interestingly, these races all share similar genetic make up, which allows for the easy transfer of genetic material between these races: However, of note, it would be somewhat more difficult with races containing more than the two sexes of male and female, such as Andorians, or those races whose bodily fluids are toxic and corrosive to others, such as Bolians.

This common genetic make-up is attributed to an ancient race of humanoid beings who supposedly seeded the galaxy. A message from this race was found in the DNA of many of the humanoids in the galaxy, and once the pieces were all fit together, the message was played in front of then Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Enterprise-D. Another ancient race (or possibly the same race) of ancient humanoids known as the Preservers also seeded life in the galaxy, but in a somewhat different manner (that we know of). The Preservers intentionally moved established cultures in danger of extinction from one planet to another, thus preserving them. This was seen in 2268, when the Enterprise, under command of James Kirk, discovered a civilization of American Indians living on the planet Amerind.

No matter the belief system you have, it is very apparent that some intelligent design was present in order to have created so much life in the same form.

re: Part 2A: Humans

0
Summary: Humans are from Earth. They generally display the following characteristics, along with more individual traits:
Leadership:
10% Crew Powers
Teamwork: 5% Team Bonus to Exploit Damage

It would be fitting to start this research by citing the inhabitants of the planet Earth, and after whom the word "humanoid" comes from - Humans.

Also known as "Terrans," (coming from an ancient language native to their world, the word "Terra" means "Earth") humans are a founding member of the UFP over 100 years after achieving warp-drive and making first contact with the Vulcans in the year 2063. They had a very violent history compared to the way of life they now enjoy, even coming to the brink of extinction during the nuclear holocaust of their third world war.

Humans are warm-blooded, and have all the characteristics that make up a humanoid that were laid out in Part 1 of this paper. Something that sets humans apart from many other humanoid species is their diversity; there are multiple skin-tones, eye and hair colors, blood-types and facial structures, which makes most individuals distinguishable from the others. The exception would be identical twins, a some rare phenomenon as it usually only happens with three out of 1,000 births. The average lifespan of a human is around 120 years.

While not as physically strong as many of the other humanoid species, Humans are very resilient and adaptable to many different environments, allowing them to colonize many worlds. A human will almost always express the following characteristics, in addition to some traits they have picked up due to up-bringing and circumstance:
Leadership: 10% Crew Powers
Teamwork: 5% Team Bonus to Exploit Damage

re: Part 2B: Vulcans

0
Summary: Vulcans are from Vulcan. They generally display the following characteristics, along with more individual traits:
Logical:
+30% Resistance to Psionic Damage, Confuse, and Placate
Physical Strength: +10% Melee Physical Damage

Known for their unending logic and stoicism, Vulcans have a similarly violent history, maybe even more so than humans. Vulcan emotions are known to be much more extreme than that of many other races, and it was this extreme that nearly destroyed their race. An ancient Vulcan philosopher, Surak, began a teaching that encouraged Vulcans to reject their violent emotions and instead look towards logic in order to solve their problems. This turn to logic is what saved the Vulcan people, and has become the foundation on which their culture is built. Some Vulcans did not follow these teachings and left Vulcan; the most notable faction would later settle on the planet Romulus and become the Romulan Star Empire. It is notable that Romulans and Vulcans share much in the way of physiology.

Vulcans are warm-blooded, however their blood is copper-based (as opposed to Humans, who have an iron-based blood) and thus is green, giving their skin a greenish tint as well. Like humans, many different skin tones are present in the Vulcan race, however hair is generally a dark brown or black color. Like humans, they do not posses any bony ridges on the forehead or nose (like many other humanoids do), but they do have pointed ears. The average lifespan of a Vulcan can reach upwards of two-hundred years. Internally, Vulcans are very different from Humans; the Vulcan heart, for example, is found where the human liver would be, and beats several hundred times a minute. Their respiratory system allows them to much more efficiently extract oxygen from the air, an adaptation necessary on their arid, desert-like homeworld. They are physically much stronger than humans, and have considerably faster reflexes. They also have inherent telepathic abilities, however this ability is often limited to touch (such as the Vulcan Mind Meld). Those individuals with somewhat stronger minds are able to project without touch, though only for short distances.

Vulcans will always exhibit the following characteristics, along with other, more personal, traits:
Logical: +30% Resistance to Psionic Damage, Confuse, and Placate
Physical Strength: +10% Melee Physical Damage

re: Part 2C: Bajorans

0
Summary: Bajorans are from Bajor. They generally display the following characteristics, along with more individual traits:
Creative:
+5% Damage and Healing with Kits
Spiritual: +10% Heals Recieved, +10% Regeneration

Bajorans have a very old culture; one of the oldest, in fact, in the Federation. Their belief system is rooted deeply in a reverance and worship for beings they call the Prophets, extra-dimensional beings who reside within the Bajoran wormhole (what the Bajorans call the "Celestial Temple"). In the 2300s, Bajor was occupied by the Cardassians for a little over 40 years, during which time their culture suffered greatly. With the withdrawal of the Cardassians and the finding of the Bajoran wormhole, Bajor quickly recovered from the occupation, being the central hub of numerous trade routes to and from the Gamma Quadrant.

Bajorans resemble humans in many ways, and can be distinguished by a series of horizontal creases across the nose. Internally, the Bajoran heart developed so that it is mirrored along the horizontal axis (the human heart is mirrored vertically); puncturing the lower ventricle can result in instantaneous death for a person. The normal gestation period for a Bajoran is only 5 months. The average lifespan of a Bajoran is 100 years, but because of the occupation, very few lived to be that old.

A Bajoran’s faith plays a large role in defining who a person is, and so it almost always influences the characteristics of an individual:
Creative: +5% Damage and Healing with Kits
Spiritual: +10% Heals Recieved, +10% Regeneration

re: Part 2D: Bolians

0
Summary: Bolians are from Bolarus IX. They display the following characteristic, along with more individual traits:
Corrosive Blood:
+20% Resistance to Toxic Damage, Deals Toxic Damage when Bitten

Bolians are the first of the species in this report that are the most dissimilar from Humans, yet still portray the necessary characteristics of a humanoid species. They are a very outspoken and generally pleasant-natured, and are very often seen employed in service roles.

Bolians are most known for their distinctive, bifurcating ridge of cartilage that runs vertically along the center of the head and face and half-way down the chest. Skin color ranges from blue-gray to a very bright blue, with a few instances of more “human-like” skin tones (such as Captain Rixx of the USS Thomas Paine). Occasionally, these skin tones are accented with darker-blue bands on their heads. Bolians are completely bald, with only a few females having hair. In addition to the ridge, Bolians also have a cartilaginous lining on their tongues which allows for consumption of foods many other species would find unpalatable.

A large concern for Captains and ship builders is the need for adequate personal facilities when Bolians are members of the crew. Bolian physiology, mainly their bodily fluids, is highly corrosive to non-Bolians – adverse affects for non-Bolians from intimate relations with a Bolian can include fatigue, nausea, and inflammation of the joints. It is very important also to have stores of Bolian blood (which is blue) to be kept on board a starship for medical purposes (primarily when a loss of blood occurs or in the case of transfusions) since their blood chemistry is so very different from most other humanoids.

re: Part 2E: Andorians

0
Summary: Andorians are from the moon Andoria. They generally display the following characteristic, along with more individual traits:
Acute Senses:
+20% Stealth Sight

Andorians are a militaristic race, native to the moon Andoria. From there, they created an empire before joining the Vulcans, Tellarites, and Humans in creating the UFP. They deplore dishonesty and would never fight without reason; however, they are nonetheless capable of duplicity. They consider themselves deeply emotional, passionate, even violent, and are not known for their charity or sympathy. Due to their unique sexuality, they place a high value on family. Andorians who die far from home can count on their companions to transport their body part back to the Andorian ices.

Like the Bolians we discussed previously, Andorians do posses the necessary traits of a humanoid while also having an appearance that is very drastically different. Andorians, also like the Bolians, are blue in skin-tone, ranging from white (only seen in a subspecies called the Aenar) to bright blue and everything in-between. Hair is white or silver in color. They are easily distinguished by a pair of antennae that protrude from either the forehead, the top of the head, or the back of the skull; these antennae aide in balance for the individual, as well as expression of emotion (much like the tail of a canine). If lost, the an antenna can grow back in nine months, with the individual learning to “cope” with the loss in only a few days. Andorians have a much higher metabolic rate than humans, and are very adaptable to many different climates. However, in an environment where the temperature is closer to the boiling point of water, they lose about 10% of their body weight a few days. Their blood is blue and displays non-viscous and translucent qualities, an adaptation to the freezing conditions on their homeworld.

Andorians have four distinct sexes; zhen and shen are more female physically, while chan and thaan correspond to male. This allows for very close familial ties, but has added a difficulty in maintaining adequate population growth in the face of near extinction, as it takes the four sexes to join in mating.

The Andorian’s passion for combat gives them a much better awareness of the world around them, as they are always on their guard for a challenge.

re: Part 2F: Benzites

0
Summary: Benzites are from the planet Benzar. They generally display the following characteristics, along with more individual traits:
Natural Armor:
Resist Energy and Physical Damage
Natural Immunities: Radiation and Toxic Damage Resistance

Continuing the trend with blue-skinned races, we come to the Benzites. Hailing from the planet Benzar, contact with the Federation was limited prior to the 24th century. Various officer exchange programs had begun by the later part of the century, and the first Benzite to enter Starfleet academy was Mordock in 2364. During the Dominion War, Benzar was conquered by the Dominion and Cardassians, but was later liberated by the Romulans.

Benzites are characterized by smooth, hairless, blue skin. A thick protrusion of skin extends down over the face, displaying a prominent nasal lobe and brow. Two facial tendrils droop down from above the upper lip. In addition, their bodies are covered in a smooth, chitinous covering. The Benzite hand is unique in that Benzites have two opposable thumbs on both hands. They are unable to naturally breathe a standard oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere, and as of the 2360s, were required to wear a respiration device in those environments. However, many indivuals undergo extensive surgery and genetic engineering to allow them to operate in these environments without a need for the respirator.

Benzites are known to develop from a series of large geostructures; those from the same geostructure naturally look identical. Benzites within these geostructures have the inherent ability to distinguish each other, all of whom would otherwise appear identical to outsiders.

Natural Armor: Resist Energy and Physical Damage
Natural Immunities: Radiation and Toxic Damage Resistance
