Beautiful ship.  I wish Elite Dangerous ships looked just as good.....which by the way is a great game that you can do a good bit of stuff that Star Citizen promises.  Might be worth looking at for some of you guys that took interest in this game.  I just hope y'all eventually get the game that's been promised instead of the continued feature creep.

Yes, one for the record books for our Fleet, and Chris Roberts has Crowd funded over $85 Million on the hopes of gamers, to produce a game on the speculation that all the promised modules will be complete and work together in a true "Universe" - another one for the record books.  By game start, he will have over $100M.  Roberts still hasn't announced a firm launch date.

Hhhhmmm, came across this link today.  I have heard whispers in the wind about this and I do agree with most of the items the author has mentioned:

Note:  Remember Battlecruiser 3000 A.D. -- that was Derek Smarts game.  Troll or competitor?  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Smart

Why not both?  And his arguments are not necessarily invalidated by his motivations.  The article calls it 'vaporware,' and that might be a little harsh - but it's not far from the truth, either.  I haven't spent any money on this game because every time they send me their monthly newsletter, it has a shiny new ship in it that costs sometimes hundreds of dollars - but the game is still unfinished.  Instead of focusing on putting ships into the cash shop, how about they finish the fucking game, first?

I really do hope this is just all petty fearmongering and that the game you guys have been promised gets released, but I'm concerned.

Mr. Smart is an indie game developer his titles were not the best and usually tanked. I think this man is on a mission to bring down this game. He has been refunded from CIG all that he had in the game. Jealousy perhaps?

I hope that the game does come to fruition I am looking forward to it. I also have some money invested if it does not work out I will write the loss off on my taxes no big deal. Chris Roberts last 10 for the Chairman did make me feel better.

Most AAA titles take on average 5 years this game was started in 2012 3 years ago. I remember when STO was launched half baked due to the publisher Atari pushing it out unfinished. I believe that it was published in just 3 years.

This is exactly why I'm reluctant to buy anything else.  I have 2 small ships amounting to about $70.  But as a Kickstarter crowd fund, he delivered some modules and fancy art work.  If he walked away today, saying he can't make it work, well he delivered the ships we paid for and a module that we could fly them in.  So, I'm out $70.  At the casino my limit is $100.  I usually walkaway as soon as I win, most don't.  I bought my 2 spots on the table and I'm waiting for the wheel to stop spinning.  It's 50/50 at this point.

While this is true, you didn't spend a penny on STO until it was released.  The gaming industry is moving more and more towards fleecing their playerbase into paying for their development costs, and Star Citizen is an extreme example of that trend in practice.  And like I said, the most disturbing part is not that you're being asked to front the games start up costs - it's that you are being asked to pay for the games cash shop development under the guise of paying for the actual game development.

FADM Fortin, think about this, I paid for 2 ships in SC and haven't been able to do much beyond saying look at my pretty ships (to myself because none of my friends can see them).  I bought the disks for STO in Closed Beta, and was able to install and play with others, albeit screwed up game play most of the time.  And, most of the bugs were worked out of a playable game before the launch date.

Now, in World of Warships, which has been in open beta for a few weeks, I have a level 5 toon and have gone through 5 ships without spending a dime.  Until they set a hard date for launch, I would be leery of spending more on ships that do not have a game.  If the revenue stream slowed, you may see them rethink the development of more toys and be more earnest about developing the game.  Or, we will witness the collapse of the house of cards that was built.  This could be a wonderful game, or a wonderful Ponzi scheme.  To me, it is still a 50/50 proposition until they launch a closed beta version of a game.

One other point, do you remember the disappointment felt as we watched Perpetual Entertainment fold after 4 years of work, and the months that passed before Cryptic announced development of STO.  It was still speculation that a developer was going to follow through when you started the Fleet.  Cryptic didn't receive any code from Perpetual, and I was amazed that they were able to pull off in 8 or so months what Perpetual couldn't do in 4 years.

Lastly, there is Mr. Roberts' track record to consider in this investment.  He left development for film, chasing money, and they weren't very successful from an investor's perspective.  By the way - you are investing in this venture - the pay out will be playing a viable game.  I think you know something about investing, considering your real world job.  Would you consider this a High, Moderate or Low risk investment?  Myself, I would place it int the High risk category until he has a published Launch Date that is kept, with dates for Closed and Open Beta beta launches that are in the near future.  Right now I see him as a marketing guru, giving us just enough to keep us hooked, which places him a few of steps above those guys selling their method for flipping property.  The premise is great, and the modules are beautiful considering the equipment needed to use them.  Closed Beta will move it in the Moderate range and a hard launch date would move the investment into the Low risk category.  That's my assessment.  And I am someone considered to be highly tolerant of investment risk.

November 2014......that's what original backers like myself were promised.  That's why I jumped ship.  Games take awhile, I give it that.  Especially good ones.  But he said he could deliver then and didn't.  Arena Commander was given several dates before it came out.  Everything is always pushed back under the same reason, "to ensure it's quality" but never anything given in detail as to why, just "because Chris isn't happy with it" is all I ever got when I was following.  Idk, I really hope it delivers but Roberts gave me the vibe of a guy that doesn't keep his word.  I trusted Wingman........but then he left.

What's the worse that can happen?? To me it would be:

1) Chris and Sandi take all the money and move it an off-shore account (Isle of Man or Cayman Island).

2) Chris & Sandi move somewhere away from the long arm of the law; live like Kings the rest of their lives.

3) Chris becomes the Bernie Madoff of the gaming world, minus the prison time.

4) Crowd-funding ceases to be a source for talented software types can develop games that true Gamers want to play.

5) What is left of Star Citizen is sold to EA or Disney, who finishes the game for Xbox, and sells each new system or ship like a DLC.

6) All investors who pledged $75 or more, get the first Star Citizen Xbox game for free, but nothing else.   (Can we use Vent on Xbox??)

For it is written:  "In space, no one can hear you scream!"

FADM Fortin, I would certainly like to have your tax accountant talk to mine about how to write this off my taxes.  Geez, if I could write off my Gaming expenses.......

On a more serious note, I would like to see some of the things that Mr. Smart brought up addressed.  I really want that outside audit and a large percentage of the funds held in some sort of Corporate trust.

Still, at the end of the day, I want to believe, that someday, I will be able to play this game as specified by Chris Roberts.

Who is Derek Smart?  Well, he isn't no John Galt!  Read and be amazed!

I want to see Star citizen succeed for two reasons:

First, obviously a lot of my friends are excited about it and have spent a good deal of money on the product.  I don't want to seee them get screwed over by anything that might take place during the game's development.  Second, part of the ideology here is that Star Citizen is being designed for PC only, with the intent of taking advantage of the power a PC offers.  It's going to make an Xbox look like an Atari 2600.  There will be no ports.  If Star Citizen is successful - which, so far, it is - it will reaffirm to the industry that games made exclusively for PC can be as successful as those made for consoles.  One would hope that the market for PC gaming would then widen a bit, and I might see a better variety of games that actually utilize what my PC can do, instead of getting shitty conversions of what works on a Playstation.

On the other hand, if it were to fail, then perhaps the gaming community would be a bit more cautious in how it decides to throw its money around.  We only get fleeced by developers who put out unfinished games with a Collectors edition and DLC charge up because so far, we've proven a willingness to pay twice what a title ought to cost.
