RE: Escort Weapon Load out: Aegis

The USS Kusanagi is an Assault Frigate; quick and agile, with a powerful weapon system, she is most effective when accompanied by a larger ship with greater shield capacity. Due to this, the Kusanagi’s weapon load out is designed to maximise fire effectiveness on all angles, not just on the bow as is traditional Escort wisdom.

While most captains tend to stick Cannons in the front and turrets in the back, which has the effect maximising the damage given at the ship’s bow, the Aegis weapon load out gives effective 360 degree coverage. Escorts have weak shields and keeping one face to an enemy can be dangerous, Captains using the stock standard load out during an extended battle have to chose between keeping their 12 on the target, allowing the target to do prolonged damage to the forward shields or break off and sacrifice damage. The Aegis allows the Captain to change trajectory while maintaining decent DPS, meaning that they are not forced into taking hits on the forward shields.

She is equipped with a Quantum Torpedo Launcher, a Plasma Beam Array, a Dual Plasma Beam Bank and a Heavy Plasma Cannon at the bow and a Quantum Torpedo Launcher and two Plasma Beam Arrays astern. This totals for 2387 DPS at 12 O’clock, 1743 DPS at 9 and 3 O’clock and 1162 DPS at 6 O’clock (Not taking into consideration torpedoes). This gives the Kusanagi exceptional 360 degree coverage, allowing her to give an exceptional broadside attack and a reasonable aft attack.

While most captains tend to stick Cannons in the front and turrets in the back, which has the effect maximising the damage given at the ship’s bow, the Aegis weapon load out gives effective 360 degree coverage. Also, there is always at least one beam array or bank not firing, meaning that all a captain has to do when a large projectile is inbound (Plasma high yield or Tricobalt)

It should also be mentioned that due to the turning speed of an escort, it is possable to roate through your forward and aft torpedoes rapidly, meaning that you can fire your bow torpedo, rotate and fire your astern torpedo, and be back at your bow torpedo just before the cooldown expires.

Abilities that work well:

AOE Trifecta: Torpedo Spread, Cannon Scatter Shot and Beam Auto Fire are rather effective at gnawing away the shields of lighter vessels, assisting other vessels with their own targets. This also has the effect of agroing the battle group you are facing, so if you use this there is a good chance you will be the number one target. However if you do this just in weapons range, pull away and let your assisting ships target one ship at a time you effectively segregate the hostile battle group. As Sun Tzu advises; divide and conquer.

Directed Fire Trifecta: High Yield Torpedo Spread, Beam Array Overload and Cannon: Rapid Fire does immense damage against single targets, draining a shield quadrant of medium and small contacts almost immediately. The idea is to use your Overload and Rapid Fire to whittle down the shields and strike the hull directly with your torpedos. The advantage of using a Dual Beam Bank is the fact that normally, when your using this configuration, your firing your broadside weapons when you activate; so when you bring your forward weapons to bear the Dual Beam Bank is the one that fires with the overload ability (most of the time). When using the Trifecta it’s also good to use fire on my mark and attack pattern alpha, these abilities boost damage, crit chance and severity, when a torpedo or an overload crit it is quite a beautiful sight.

Tachyon Beam: This ability knocks down shield resilience, essentially making your weapons do better damage against shields. This is best used with the Directed Fire Trifecta or coordinated fire with other ships in the formation.

I really like that, good job Mr Kelly. I know we havnt posted SOP for research projects yet. What we do have planned is for Work In Progress items to be posted here, and finalized reports (we need to wait a bit untill we get everything we need for those documents) will go into the Fleet Technical Library.

I do have a rough idea for a standard template we may use for anything we post into the FltTechLib, so once i get it fleshed out, we can work together to get your nice post into there.

One thing that might be nice would be some closer pics of your interface. Maybe small pic of your weapons, and things like Abilities, or anything else that might help. You can always take a screen shot, then use MSPaint to cut out the parts of the pic you dont need, to make it smaller, but a higher res.

All in all, a very nice post, and i like a different take on Escort setups. This is exactly the type of stuff we here at KRS are looking for. Good job Mr Kelly
