Okay we actually did it early today but our Milkyway@Home team has crested 1000000 points accumulated and continues to rise up the ranks. Right now the teams we have in our sights are:

Star Trek Online
Star Wars
Microsoft
Intel

There are other teamns obviously but these are the names that stood out.

Our team is currently at rank 478 and rising fast. Way to go guys!

Very nice, thanks for posting the updates.

If you get some time, can you explain any possible security threats that participating in this program may cause.

I am asking since I took part of a discussion on ventrilo with Mr. Blodvaerd earlier this evening. His concerns were that this was like a game he had played which was similar in nature (letting the program use your processor) and from what I gathered had installed a bunch of spyware and other junk on his system.

Other members may have some similar concerns and since you make your living in the world of computer tech advice, I thought you could give a more professional break down on this than I could.

I have used the BIONC system in other projects in the past and I can tell you they are stellar about keeping their software secure. To get a project on the BOINC software you have to go the the University of Berkley and the program directors for approval and then they actually host the material to ensure security.

I have done this kind of stuff since the original Folding@Home and SETI@home and I have never been infected. I also just called a friend that has been running a folding team for over 4 years and he has not ever heard of an instance of malware infection from this software.

I can corroborate this. I've been running SETI@home on-and-off since about 2004 and have never had any issues.

Greetings guys.
Well I got this thing running like crazy today.

I have some questions.
1) When my project is finished it says "Ready for report" in the status bar. What does that mean? And how do I report it.
2) Is there a way I can speed up the progress?

It automatically reports completed results; if this isn't happening there's something with your network preferences preventing it from communicating (or you're not hooked up to the 'net). As for speeding it up... not much. If your preferences limit CPU usage to <100% then yeah it's gonna be slower.

I usually have mine set to start work whenever there's >1min of inactivity with the computer and to stop work whenever there's not activity (like a mouse-move or a keypress). Otherwise if it's always chugging away at 100% I usually can't do much else.

I haven't touched the Preference dealing with my network. I am behind a router those. Would that be the problem?

I don't think so... Though that "Confirm before connecting to internet" thing might have something to do with it, because it's basically asking you permission to send/receive data every time it needs to. I say, uncheck that and see what happens.

Confirm before connecting to internet. Is now unchecked but nothing is happening.

But, I Found out what I needed to do. If this happens to anyone else just tell them to go to the project tab, click on the project and push the Update button.

The Update button does the following,
1. Report all completed tasks
2. Get more work if necessary
3. Connect to the project
4. Get your latest preferences

So, the problem is fixed. Thanks for the help.

I am going to do some more reading and look at the config files to see what I can find or mess around with. LOL
