So if I understood this correctly, they are going with a system similar to EVE Online's as far as the in-game vs. out of game currency.
Dilithium can be used to purchase C-Store credits
The differeneces are:
C Store credits will "now" (F2P) only be able to purchase new ships.
Dilithium is used primarily to purchase other in-game items directly; and indirectly ships in C Store.
I'm not quite sure if they are saying the F2P model STO will use will lock out any content, since they said that did not work well with Champions. But, if that is the case, then there is no reason to carry the subscription cost unless you want to get a new ship faster.
There is still a bit of double speak in this article, and more than a bit of defection as well on the part of Cryptic.
Overall, F2P will be good for STO and I know a number of people who will return when it goes live!

I am genuinely surprised from a business standpoint...I would've thought they would at least try to capitalize the holiday shopping crowd to increase revenue

Maybe they felt they weren't competitive enough against all of the other titles coming out about the same time?

Looks like the new economy along with the Gold Member stipend along with the new STFs along with DOFF system goes into affect on Holodeck the first week in December?

Wow, that's great news! I was disappointed thinking we would have to wait for the changes for 5 weeks longer than we anticipated, but looks like we'll get the live changes first week of december after all
