I never realized it but I went from Capt to Lower Half Admiral with DOFF missions alone.
Oh well atleast I got a new Soverign class ship out of it.

You can make pretty substantial progress just logging in a few minutes a day to set up some doff missions...

Pretty much ditto above. Just kept the Doff's busy a few times a day and the next thing I knew is that I had a nice Sovereign Class Cruiser (USS Blue Ridge) and was a Vice Admiral.
However, IMHO, this was almost like cheating. There are just so many nuisances to this game that I didn't learn as I leveled up. Slowly working my way through the earlier/starter missions hoping to learn more. Appears to be a lot to do and see and there is no rush.
