Aegis • Borg • Absolute Zero • M.A.C.O. • Omega Force • Honor Guard:

As we know, there are several sets of equipment you can invest in. I would like to discuss what is the best application for each of these sets. Which class would best benefit from which sets and other aspects.

Right now the way it stands the Borg set or Aegis set is the way to go. This is from my view point, and seems to still hold true from the PvP aspect.

Borg gives you the hull and shield heal bonus with 3-set. Some people run the 4-set with the shield which works, but it's unwise for an escort due to the fact your shields are your only real defense and you need all the shield you can get. Someone gets to your hull, your done. Keep in mind that they nerfed the 3-set shield heal, so you could just go with another piece to get a bonus elsewhere.

Aegis gives you defense bonuses. The set piece is good for the cruisers and is also your other best option for an escort if you don't have/want borg set.

The Breen set, personally I only use this while lvling up and it does well there.

Omega set is a hit and run type of set. It's good for damage like its ground counter-part but its not good for taking hits.

MACO I can't really say much about other then the shield is great for escorts. I've heard of some running a 2-set MACO with engine, rest with Borg. I tried it, didn't like it that much. I didn't see a benefit from it when we furballed it up during the 2-year event. I have seen cruisers running this full set though. Also the engines give you Warp 12 in sector with a nice effect.

Options best to run for escort include(in my opinion):
3-set Borg, high cap shield(MACO, Reman, Aegis, Covariant Capx3)
2-set Aegis, 2-set Borg(for a defense bonus and hull heal)

Personally, I like the regen shield and the set bonuses on the Borg set more than anything else I've looked at.

Wondering what set would be best for eng/cruiser builds.
Just got my MACO vet shield but not sure if it's good for cruisers since the omega has more regen and then there's borg shields which for me give 300regen but less cap.
Basically it's one of these "what type of shield is better" for cruisers, resilient (maco) or regenerative (omega and borg).
If ya know what I mean.

I know for cruisers that covariant..think i spelled that wrong...are the favorites for the high cap to take damage. But if cruisers don't go that route I see them going to the Borg shield, people like to show their visuals. I played with the Borg shield on my cruiser, but I stick with high caps. Shack uses it to great effect.

The thing about Regen shields is that unless you typically run with a shield power of more than 50, then they aren't doing you any good.

A few things have changed over the last 15 months, so any updates our Veterans can give would be most welcome.

However, I wrote this down last month, but it didn't make any sense:  "you need the 2-piece Borg Set with Elite Fleet Shields."

Question:  Which two pieces from the Borg Set are they referring too, and which type of Elite Fleet Shields?  Until a few days ago I didn't realize the variety of shields/deflectors/engines available to us via the Fleet store (only purchased weapons).   My Crimea is still very squishy, or I'm just a bad pilot.  I switched her out to a beam/torp boat to increase survivability, I hope.

The other factor nowadays is Warp Cores available through the Dilithium mine.  Any recommendations, or even better, what to avoid on purchasing these new Warp Cores?

Thank you.

i run a 2 piece adapted maco(increased torp damage, being my biggest gain) and the regular maco deflector for the stats.

This is more of a pvp setup than anything else. You run the Borg Engines and Deflector with an Elite fleet shield. The 2 Elite shields are the res A and res b(each is resistant to half of the energy weapon types)  Lets say you and I went into a pvp match and we don't know what energy weapons we each run(works with large matches too) I see what I'm getting hit with, run away to break combat and equip the appropriate shield of the two. The purpose of the 2 piece Borg is for the really nice hull regen the 2 piece gives.

I find I survive longer with the maco resilient shields because of the 5% absorb 5% bleed through, the slightly less cap than the covariant arrays doesn't matter too much with the build I am running. (lots of resists and shield heals) The borg set is good the 2 piece gives shield and hull heal and the 3 piece gives the tractor beam. the borg no longer has a 4 piece it is broken into two different three pieces. the aegis is a great shield, the whole set kicks ass, I just feel that the mk12 maco or adapted maco are better. I favor the maco over adapted but they are both great sets. If I had to order them from best to not so best , I would say maco mk12, adapted maco mk12, aegis set then the borg set. I don't like the borg shield it's cap is way to low. it does have a decent regen of 300/6 but its useless IMO unless you have 750-800/6 or better. Now as davis mentioned the two piece borg (engine, deflector) with a elite fleet shield with Res A and adaptive on it(res b also). make a killer combo due to the resistances granted by the shields and the passive healing from the 2 piece. I find I use the maco set or adapted maco set on any cruiser or escort. If you are running a super tank I recommend the covariant style of shields like the adapted maco. if you are running a slightly less defense skilled ship, I believe the maco is better due to the less bleed through.  escorts I like running the maco or adapted maco on them.  The breen set and the jemhadar set I think are good fillers till you can get one of the other 4 sets.  Oh the omega set is ok but I don't care for it at all.

I go with what Runaz said on all but my Defiant (use 2 Borg with MACO Resist shield).  I use Adapted MACO shield and engine (chances to lower opponents Acc and hot restart to engine disables) for a nice torp boost, aux power boost, and crew resist.  Then I use the MACO deflector for the different boost it give.  I also agree with G, the Aegis set is a really good set that gets overlooked and lost in the world of different reps (remember back when dilithium was made because we had too many different currencies/marks? hahaha)
