re: Upcoming wargames

As the token Romulan in the quarterly wargames usually, I have been thinking about this for 6 months now. I  missed the last ones due to my work schedule. In doing so, I was unable to extend my personal streak of 0-45 in space battles. I still long for the team goal to actually kill someone in these battles, lol. I do, however, have the groud ribbon,Yay! I have uprgaded all my eligble relevent ships to T-5U. I have no illusions about being the big battle wagon out front leading the charge, being a science officer. What I was wondering is this. IF some of you wargame veterans would please weigh in on the choice of ship to the games. I think my reaction time restrictions rend to limit me to beams and torpedos. I tend to disregard being a science officer, and use ships that enhance engineering or tactical.  I also like to use Romulan ships, not some other type. My choices are these:

1. Fleet D'Deridex

2. Aehlal battlecruiser

3. Any variant of the Scimitar class. Science version I can run energy drain on.

4. Fleet Mogai, my personal favorite, but is it the best choice?

5. Fleet Daienos

Most of them, I can get hull to over 70k. I can get Crit chance to 26.9% and Crit severity to 123.9%

Is there another I should be looking at instead? Which do you think would allow me the best chance to make a decent showing amongst all the super ships that show up? I am eager to hear what you Fleet veterans think on this.

Ashantia Vashaar sends....

Capt Vashaar -

First question:  Which side of the fence do you play on with your Romulan?  Fedy or KDF?

With probably a 3-200 (or worse) space record, I'm the last person who should respond to your query.  However, I'm currently running three Romulan/Reman toons and have been playing them hard since the Romulan launch.   They are my preferred toons, especially the KDF ones.  First off, you have a great selection of ships to choose from; indeed, a first world problem.   My advice to you is to either go with your gut or the ship you love to fly the most.  Put on your best/upgraded gear, double-check your key-binds, and practice, practice, and then practice some more until you can fly her blind.   Between the 7th Fleet Engineers and STO Academy, you should be able to gain additional advice about Bridge Officer and Duty Officer builds to optimize you ship.

Just remember, in the war games, you are just one finger of the potential fist.  The fist (squadron) that can fly as "one," will win the day; providing the squadrons are chosen on a random basis.   Good hunting.

Cheers

As Wupteedo said, pick what ship you love and you gut tells to you fly.  Any ship can help a team effort so pick what you truly wish to fly.  If you need help with a build the PvP forums on STO is filed with people sharing them. If someone tells you that you can't be competitive in a ship of your choosing, ignore them and prove them wrong.

Practice, practice, practice as the man side.  Learn the ship you love and what your limits are with it along with strengths and weaknesses.  The queues can be brutal, but they will teach a good bit if you keep at it.

Regardless, Wargames are a team effort.  Sure, being a good solid player can go a long way to the win effort or rolling in a super ship running a cheese build.  But it's the team that wins and I feel some tend to forget that.  A good team Captain will utilize your skill set and respect the build you choose.  If you find yourself a Captain, then just keep in mind whose characters and ships will bolster your own play and build on that.

My 2 cents for what it's worth.

Me bad, me bad.  Sorry Captain Huckabee, I owe you a beer and a "hat tip" kudos.

Captain Vashaar -- The advice I gave you was given to me by Captain Huckabee about two years ago.  Good advice and knowledge is always passed on.  For the most part, I have tried to apply it, however, that darn ADD keeps getting in my way.   Too many factions, too many toons, too many ships, too many places to go, and way too many enemies to fight.

Cheers
