re: Returning soon

Hey all. I have been away for a bit, but am thinking of returning to game soon. Most of the Fleet will know me as the token Romulan. I am wondering a couple of things. Mr.Davis's exotic damage build intrigues me, but as a Romulan, my ship choice would be limited to maybe the Temporal Science vessel, or the Fleet Ha'nom. Anyone have any advice? As an alternate plan, would I just be better off finishing the leveling of a Federation toon, and going that way. I do so admire the Romulan's, being a submarine stealthy type of fella.

Also wondering, after about 8 months away, where to begin when I come back?

Is the Klingon fleet very active outside Kick-a-Tribble? I could go that route.

One thing is for sure, I have tons of ships to choose from

I look forward to your input, and Mr. Davis, I will need to pick your brain again.

Respectfully submitted,

Vashaar

Well the Anniversary ship is a Krenim Science vessel so you may be in luck. Davis an I were talking about a Romulan variant, but none of the ships really fit the bill. Hopefully in the next couple of days we'll know what the boff/console layout will be, and if Crptic likes us at all it will be what you are looking for.

What are the basic requirements? The Ha'nom has 5 science consoles and I believe 3 science BOFFs. The Temporal Science ship could also be a viable choice.

I am a bit of a typical Romulan snob because I don't fly non-Romulan ships. I have been looking at the Fleet Malem warbird. I would need some advice on how to best make it work, given only 4 science slots.

Neither option is bad, however both will force you to make some sacrifices. The Warbird has good boff seating and 5 sci console slots , but only 10 console slots overall. The Wells on the other hand only has four Sci slots and the boff seating isn't as nice. More importanly, drom looking at the wiki they both appear to be missing a secondary deflector which accounts for a significant portion of you exotic damage. So if you had to go with one, I'd say go with the Ha'nom.

As for requirements . . . I think the optimal layout would have 5 sci console slots and a Cmdr and Lt. Cmdr sci boffs.  From how things are shaping up, it doesn't seem like the ration of engine to tac console slots has a huge impact, but we'll see.

When upgraded to T5-U, the gain the 11th console slot. As T5-U's, they have less hull and shields than a Fleet T6 and one less BOFF ability. I would hope that they've had secondary deflector slots added to them, but I'm not sure. They also have less power than a ship with a warp core, and if I'm not mistaken the singularity core builds up power from your energy weapons fire (but it may just be combat). The build itself isn't really a hit and run style of build, which also makes the Romulan style ship less ideal than the Scryer or even the Pathfinder. The Scryer does have a cloak if that's what's really bothering you. Finally the Starship Traits that are most commonly used in this type of build are either unavailable for the Romulan faction, or so expensive to purchase from the exchange, that they might as well be.

The stats for the new ship are out. Not happy with the biff layout.

My 2 cents, and this is a real pain, but...........roll a Romulan Borg Science (Female), and then go with a KDF affiliation.  This opens up many options for you.

Also, Bill/Sapel/Kurak(sp) is currently flying a Fleet Ha'non, so I would get his 2 cents on this.  "Kick-a-Tribble" nights are coming down to who can throw the biggest/best gravity wells.  My Reman Science Officer is flying either a Scimitar or Romy Temporal ships as her primary vessels.  Hopefully, sometime in the near future these "science" ships will get the badly needed "true" science upgrades.   And for some strange reason, both the Breen Cruiser/Carrier come to mind as good options.

Keep us posted on your progress.

KDF side doesn't open up any more options. Once you hit 50 on a Romulan, they are limited to Romulan or cross-faction ships...can't fly a KDF ship.

It seems the wiki lists the Scryer as lacking a secondary deflector as well so they probably do have one which is good. And to clarify my comment about not being happy with the boff layout. I'm not thrilled. I'd prefer to have that extra sci slot, but I can see the usefulness in having another tac ability to proc AHOD.

I am just going to stick with the Praetorian. A Ha'nom T-5U. Now to outfit it...
