Good afternoon, Admirals and Captains. My Aunt in Indiana just posted this on her FaceBook page and I thought I would share with you.
"We attended a Veterans Day tribute at Brown County High School on Monday that was just wonderful. Band, color guard, choir, performed and speaker was an 88 year old vet from the USS Indianapolis that went down during WW 2, losing over 800 men. He stood and talked for nearing an hour. The ones that did survive were in the water for 4-5 days before they were found. Many men lost their lives from the sharks and injuries. He gave an amazing tale of survival. It was wonderful to see the entire school(5th grade through l2th and audience) stand numerous times and applauded the vets from the various wars and peace time entering and leaving the program. Each branch of the services were honored and stood as their song was played by band and performed by the color guard. Their were about 8-10 WW 2 vets there. The school has much to be proud of. A wonderful lesson for all our young people."
Lest we forget.
If you want to read more about it, here is a good link about the USS Indianapolis. http://indymaru.tripod.com/
My own Tactical Escort is named in her honor; lest we forget.
