Directive 81 – OMEGA (2270.0408)

Under the recommendation of Admiral James Tiberius Kirk, Directive 81, the coined “Omega Directive”, is in effect. Under this directive a special task force will be created. This task force will have the authority to ignore all other directives and standing orders should certain conditions arise; these conditions being the formation of an omega particle or research into creating an omega particle. This task force will be known as the Omega Response Task Force.

ORTF will also perform frequent patrols through systems with a high level of boronite, the element used to create Omega artificially.

Under this directive all personnel with a security clearance of 10 or higher (O6 or higher) will be given a basic briefing about the Omega Particle. Should they detect Omega they are to report it to the ORTF. If the ORTF is out of contact, the Commanding Officer responding must destroy the particle.

All personnel with a clearance of 10 or higher that are directly involved in the ORTF are to be given a full briefing about the Omega Particle, which includes boronite dispersion throughout the Alpha and Beta quadrants. Should they detect or be advised about the presence of Omega they are required to respond immediately to the call. The particle is then to be destroyed.

Directive 81 – OMEGA (Amendment, 2410.0327)

Under the recommendation of Brigadier General Blodvared and Major General Talbot, the ORTF is to be restructured into the 81st MACO Battalion due to the Borg interest in Omega and their rising activity near the Gamma Oranis Transwarp Gate. As the 81st MACOs will have more reach, this has the potential to prevent the Borg and other entities from discovering the extent of boronite deposits in the alpha and beta quadrants.

Standard Security level 10 briefing:

In 2269 a federation science team led by Professor Ketteract were working on a project called Project Omega at a classified research station in the Lantaru sector. The projects goal was to create an inexhaustible energy source which would end all the needs for all other sources of energy. The research team created one omega particle which only existed for a fraction of a second before destabilising, killing the research team and damaging subspace for over 3.2 light-years, making it impossible to travel at warp through that area. Starfleet suppressed all knowledge of this experiment, saying that the inability to go to warp in the Lantaru sector was due to a natural phenomenon.

If a handful of Omega Particles were to be created and destroyed it is possible that subspace for the entire galaxy might also be destroyed, also ending interstellar civilisation as we know it. Therefore when omega is detected, you ship will lock down and display the last letter of the Greek alphabet. You will proceed to a secure area of your ship and activate you level 10 security clearance. You will then pass on your data to the 81st MACO Battalion. If you are unable to reach the 81st for whatever reason, you must destroy the Omega particle and all research pertaining to it.

81st MACO briefing

(*In addition to the relevant parts of the standard briefing)

Scientist believe that a planetoid, containing boronite, crumbled near the Bajoran system. This had the effect of spreading the substance trough several systems in the Beta Ursae, Alpha Trianguli, Sirius and Eta Eridani Sector blocks. Due to the Borg’s obsession with Omega, the presence of Boronite in the vicinity of the Gamma Oranis/Sirius Transwarp Gate poses a sever security threat to the federation. Should the Borg get wind of this, they would undoubtedly invade these sectors on mass. For this reason, anyone with this knowledge is Code 81-A; Terminate if assimilated.

Starfleet science teams have also detected Boronite in the B’tran cluster; this would suggest that the Borg presence in Gamma Oranis is due to Omega.

While the 81st is the first responding Unit to Omega, this does not mean that this is their sole duty. As an 81st MACO you must still patrol and intervene as a normal Starfleet/MACO would , however these duties are dropped as soon as Omega is detected.

Directive 81-A, If a 81st MACO is about to be or is in the process of being assimilated in to the Borg collective, the MACO in question must be immediately terminated. This is due to the fact that they have had a full brief on the Omega particle; any additional information about Omega given to the Borg has the potential to endanger the security of Federation.

Directive81-B, if an Omega alert is sounded the closest 81st MACO ship is to be dispatched immediately, regardless of what its current mission is.

Directive 81-C, if an Omega particle is confirmed the responding task force must resort to any means necessary to destroy the particle. Under this Directive, the Prime Directive is rescinded.

Directive 81-D, If possible, any omega particles are to be transported to the Lantaru sector, to the site of the classified Omega Research Facility to be disposed.

Directive 81-E, A Harmonic Chamber, a device created by seven of nine, is to be stored and maintained aboard all 81st MACO ships

Directive 81-F, senior staff is to be given the standard level 10 security clearance briefing. Commanding officers are not to share the location, dispersion and concentration of Boronite.

Directive 81-G, 81st MACO ships must run patrol routes that call for a scan of all systems with a substantial concentration of Boronite.
