hmm, dont really notice much different with that one, unless its the background.

(EDIT:) Ah yeah, the background. Old one used to have a few planets in it, this looks like one of your newer "space" pics, i like it

On a lot of these revisions, that's all it's going to be - a change in the background. The patch itself is largely untouched otherwise.

On some, the main focal art of the patch may unfortunately need to be revised. Depending on the source, I am seeeking permission from the artists to utilize their work. For the most part, the art community I'm drawing from has been great, though I still have a good deal of people I haven't heard back from yet.

Some artists I know better than to ask. It's not that they're 'dumb' or unreasonable; they're professional grade - and like anyone in a creative field - author, photographer, sculptor, whatever - they must vigorously protect their work for several reasons.

These revisions are going to come slowly; it's a process, and it's largely for my own piece of mind.

They'll still be kick-ass, though.

Mr. Shackelford, you've outdone yourself. I love the background on the Astoria patch. I saw that you uploaded the R2 to the Ship's Store. Thanks. When you get a chance, do you think you can update the Ship's Store with the R3 patch. No rush. If there is anything I can do, just ask.

I was going propose doing the assembly work on the namebars, just to lighten the load on Evildead. I think I could handle it, and that way you both wouldn't be bothered with it. The same for the Ship's Store. If there is a templet or a sizing guide to go by, I could handle uploading the pre-assembled artwork they need to produce the mugs and shirts and stuff, or at least do the assembly work, so you can upload it. Just a thought. Let me know.

JT

If it means that you can use your creativity to a higher level, I don't mind a patch revision myself. Though the Shagohod name is under Konami's copyright, I wouldn't mind a revision of my patch with something drawn up or recreated.

Also, from my experience working with my college's newspaper, anything drawn by hand usually doesn't fall under copyright law if you can draw it out.

TRUE STORY: At that same newspaper, we were forced to change our logo because one of the designers decided to use the Jacksonville Jaguars logo. The NFL noticed this. That same semester, I reviewed video games (2010-11 holiday games) and drew Super Mario question boxes as my ratings system to avoid Nintendo hounding me.

As far as your patch goes Mav, thats more up to Evil, since he created it.

I've just sort of reached a point where'd I'd like to be able to show my work outside of the fleet, and the more 'original' I can make the pieces, the better. Using stuff that's licensed as creative commons, or is in the public domain, is much better than 'framing' art copyrighted by a professional.

And, like I said, if I were ever to try and use this skill to say, start a business - I have to be able to make these designs without opening myself to risk of lawsuit. So, it's good practice for me to find and use those tools that are legal.

Besides, like Cleo said - it's the right thing to do.
