USS Walking Dead - scheduled for refit
USS Sulaco - temporary command

We have finally arrived at Earth Spacedock after extensive combat patrols in Tau Dewa Sector. I believe that we have done an admirable job improving the reputation and credibility of the 7th Fleet with the New Romulus goverment. The USS Walking Dead has been assigned a refit berth at Utopia Fleet Yards. She is scheduled to have an extensive tactical systems overhaul and weapon refit. I have granted the majority majority of the crew an extended shore leave while the ship is under refit. Myself and a few select Staff Officers have been assigned temporarily to the USS Sulaco. It has been requested that I assume command until a permanent Captain can be selected. With the fleet spread as thin as it is, it may be quite some time.

The Sulaco is a beautiful ship in her own right. She is a refitted sovereign class that has been updated to match the new regent class performance. She has also been fitted with reverse engineered Dominion technology. Weapons, shields, engines, and deflectors have all been built utilizing Dominion polaron technology. After recently participating in simulated combat actions with Fleet Captain Huckabee, she has been certified as full mission capable.

We have been ordered to proceed to the Orellius sector to make liaison with the Deferi and render assistance as necessary.

Performed a final walk-through of the USS Walking Dead prior to turning her over to Utopia yard personnel. The crew has done a fantastic job at preparing the ship for her refit. I have recommended Chief Engineer Commander Santiago receive the Meritorious Commendation Medal for his hard work and diligence. All systems have been powered to standby and the ship feels like a ghost town.

My Chief Science Officer Lieutenant Robt has requested to transfer to the USS Sulaco with my select group of Staff Officers. He wishes to continue his experiments on improving our scanning capabilities on various anomalies that we have discovered. We have also encountered some strange alien artifacts that he has requested to transfer to the Sulaco. I approved his transfer and requests as he is an invaluable asset to have aboard.

Our initial Staff briefing aboard the Sulaco is scheduled for 1900 Standard Earth Time.

MISSION LOG - ORELLIUS PATROL

Upon arrival to the sector we received a distress signal from a Deferi convoy. The convoy was under attack by Breen forces. We responded and found 2 Deferi frigates attempting to defend 3 freighters from multiple Chel Grett cruisers and Plesh Brek frigates. The freighters had already been disabled by the time we responded. The USS Sulaco commenced combat operations immediately upon assessing the situation. The ship and crew performed superbly under combat conditions. Two enemy cruisers and six frigates were destroyed or disabled during the conflict. Zero casualties and no damage was recieved aboard the Sulaco. We remained on station until additional support vessels arrived to tractor the disabled freighters back to Defera. The convoy was en route from Outpost 3. The Deferi captain leading the convoy has informed me that they have lost contact with the outpost, and all of our attempts to make contact have been met with static.

We have laid in a course to investigate and assist the outpost if necessary. Arrival time estimate is 1 hour.

Tactical has been instructed to provide a detailed analysis of the engagement for study.

The USS Sulaco has dropped out of warp to find Outpost 3 under siege. The outpost appears to be blockaded by multiple Breen cruisers and a large capital ship. The capital ship hailed and her Captain identified it as the "Dresna". The Breen demanded our immediate surrender or imminent destruction. After attempts to negotiate were denied we commenced combat operations. The Dresna was destroyed with no escape pods detected. Also destroyed were three additional cruisers and six frigates who warped in shortly after. Four minor injuries occured in Engineering when an ECS console overheated and shorted out. Minor hull damage recieved has already been patched and repaired.

Medical away teams were transported to the outpost to assist with casualty treatment. Deferi reinforcements arrived 30 minutes after completion of hostilities. Away teams were then retrieved and the USS Sulaco has commenced with a patrol of the sector.

We had been patrolling the sector for about two weeks since our last engagement when we recieved a distress call from a mining facility in the Kelvani Belt. As we dropped out of warp, Communications attempted to hail the facility on all channels. As we did so, the distress signal abruptly cut off and a Breen signal cut in, gloating at our "inevitable destruction". At the same time Lt Ayorula detected the telltale signs of Photon Mine thrusters flaring to life.

I immediately ordered shields to be raised and for helm to go to full impulse. As the ship shot out of the trap, one mine was deflected off the shields before its arming mechanism could come online. Almost immediately, a task force of Chel Grett cruisers and Plesh Brek frigates dropped out of warp surrounding the Sulaco and mining facility. I ordered tactical to shift all nonessential power to the polaron beam arrays and to fire at will.

In a moment of great initiative, Lt Ayorua shunted all phaser power through the forward array, which caused an overloaded beam to lance through the nearest cruisers shield and vaporize the bridge. As the disabled cruiser drifted away showing secondary explosions, a trio of frigates rushed in to fill the void. Tactical proceeded to fire at will causing severe damage to the frigates. As the Breen scrambled to bring their shields back online, I ordered a volley of high yield torpedoes which annihilated the trio. At this point the rest of the Breen strike force began a full retreat.

I ordered the duty science officer to scan all remaining vessels for Deferi lifesigns. He informed me that the remaining cruiser showed that the cargo hold contained over 100 Deferi. We hailed the vessel to attempt to negotiate the release of the hostages. As a sign of good faith, both the Sulaco and the Breen cruiser lowered shields. The Breen Captain demanded 1000 gold-pressed bars of latinum as an exchange for the Deferi. Considering that 7th Fleet SOP dictates that we do not negotiate with hostage takers I asked my crew to investigate alternative options. My science officer suggested a rather unconventional solution.

He recommended we remodulate the deflector dish to fire a deflector pulse which could temporarily scramble the Breen ships internal sensors. This would allow us to beam the hostages out of the hold directly without alerting the Breen. I ordered him to make it happen and for helm to plot a course to Defara Prime at maximum warp. As soon as the last of the hostages were retrieved, the Sulaco flashed to warp 10 as a garbled protest came from the Breen ship.

We are currently on course to deliver our passengers in 22 minutes. We will then proceed to Outpost 3 for a short shore leave to stretch the crews legs.

We have been met at Outpost 3 by Captain Dominic Hammond of the USS Errant Venture and Captain Tovar from the recently commisioned USS Eclipse. The Eclipse and Errant Venture have been ordered to assume patrol duties of this sector. They have brought rumors that the long awaited advanced multi-vector assault escort refits that have been shrouded in secrecy at Starbase 643's shipyard are to be commisioned in less than a week. Additionally my good friend Captain Tovar who was involved in the development process has informed me that my name has been thrown around by HQ to take command of one of them.

While there has been no mention of me leaving the Walking Dead, my friend is not prone to spreading unfounded rumors. I must admit that the thought of joining the spearhead of the Fleet is highly interesting. I will just have to be patient and take orders as they arrive.

In the meantime, the USS Sulaco has been ordered to scan the Alpha Trianguli sector for particle anomalies. We are then to proceed to the dangerous Japori-Beta Thoridor corridor in the Tau Dewa sector. There have been reports that KDF forces have been ambushing New Romulus colonists vessels transiting the area.

Our orders are to relieve the USS Triton, who's captain just happens to be my former 1st Officer Captain Mirra. I look forward to seeing my former protege and catching up with her. I have heard nothing but good things about the Triton recently.

After an extensive review of our combat logs, I have determined that there are a few tactical adjustments to make. My tactical officer excels at her position, however, she is still accustomed to operating in a slower paced cruiser. Her last command was aboard the USS Tyger, an older Galaxy class exploration cruiser. A slow lumbering hulk of a starship designed to take punishment and hold the line until reinforcements can arrive.

Aboard my vessels I believe in a faster paced battle doctrine. We will be detouring to ESD on our way to Tau Dewa. I plan on running through a few battle drills to increase efficiency and lethality. Something that my tactical officer is lacking is advanced knowledge of standard attack patterns. I will drill this crew until Alpha and Omega are like second nature to them. Some will grumble and hate it I am sure. But in the end, being the consumate professionals that they are, they will appreciate the lessons.

I've always taught that the more we sweat we shed in training, the less blood we shed in battle.

After an intense week of training, we have finally arrived in the Tau Dewa sector. Our mission was to relieve the USS Triton of her patrol duties in the Japori-Beta Thoridor corridor. Upon arrival to the Japori system we dropped out of warp into the midst of an intense battle being waged between Romulan and Nausicaan forces. Several Romulan birds of prey were being hammered by destroyer esorts and syphon frigates. As we moved to engage the enemy forces, the lead BoP transmitted an abandon ship message moments before her core went critical.

The USS Sulaco engaged the enemy with polaron beams and quantum torpedoes as soon as we were within effective range. They were quickly overwhelmed and destroyed. Too late we realized that those ships were only the advance screen of a large battle flotilla. In quick succession battleships, garumba siege destroyers, and syphon frigates were dropping out of warp flooding the battle space with disruptor and torpedo fire. The remaining BoPs were quickly overwhelmed and destroyed.

The enemy fleet shifted fire to the Sulaco and began pounding on our shields. The frigates began deploying syphon drones in an attempt to depower our systems. Due to the quick reactions of our engineers' remodulating of our shield frequencies, they were prevented from completely debilitating us. Precise targeting from our tactical officer made short work of the drones.

My communications officer informed me that an strange encrypted signal was emanting from the battleship. Each time the signal pulsed the rest of the ships performed uncannily coordinated attack patterns. We surmised that there was some form of experimental coordination system at work.

I ordered tactical to execute attack patterns Alpha and Omega, to shunt all available weapon power through the forward beam array, and to prepare a salvo of high yield quantum torpedoes. I ordered my comm officer to signal as soon as he detected a pulse from the battleship.

My comm officer signaled that it was time. I ordered tactical to open fire. Our overcharged forward beam lanced out and punched through the Battleships forward shields. It also burned off a large chunk of forward hull plating. As the beam dissipated the quantum salvo slipped through the shield gap and detonated, atomizing the fore and starboard sections of the ship. That was when the unexpected happened.

The rest of the flotilla suddenly appeared to go out of control. They began firing weapons wildly in all directions hitting open space and each other. After several minutes of this the remaining ships not destroyed or disabled by friendly fire self destructed simultaneously. As soon as we finished our sensor sweep to verify that no further enemy vessels were in the area we commenced with search and rescue efforts of the Romulan crews.

The USS Sulaco sustained zero casualties and negligible damage. I have filed a full report of the encounter and sensor readings with 7th Fleet Operations.

The recently established Romulan homeworld of New Romulus is off to a rocky start. There have been reports of various hostile factions attacking starship traffic throughout the Tau Dewa sector. Rumours abound that the Klingon Defense Forces are sending covert attack forces into outlying systems in an attempt to destabilize the region.

This network has recently recieved footage of Federation ships of the 7th Fleet pushing the invaders back.

Here you can see the USS Sulaco NCC-91986, commanded by Fleet Captain Justin "Evildead" Hammond, coming to the aid of a romulan patrol group. Official reports indicate that the Sulaco and her crew were successful in repelling the Nausicaan battle group and is still in the sector providing much needed security.

As ALWAYS, stay tuned to the FNN for all your galaxy news!
