Interesting. I've been using "The Hilbert Guide" as a template for building escorts, but it's switched to beam arrays and flying broadside for damage. I've often wondered how that could hold up damage-wise to a more "traditional" layout with DHC and torps.

I know a lot of the OPvP community recommends his stuff so I'm sure it holds up. I just never cared for the "style" of his or the OPvP escorts. Mainly because I think torps are valuable and, well, I just really like them. I always made my escorts to cater to being good in PvP and fun for me to use in PvE.

He has a PvE Escort build with antiproton beam arrays. I can understand why beam arrays though. It is easier to fly broadside than keeping a target in that 45 deg firing arc. I'm old-fashioned I guess. I see beam arrays as cruiser weapons. It honestly feels odd to fly an escort with them.

I can see the value, in a PvE setting, of having a few - but not taking advantage of the capability to equip cannons seems silly. Most escorts are maneuverable enough where keeping targets in the forward arc is not a problem.

^^^^ Yea what he said. It's not really making the most of an escort without the cannons. All it takes is a little practice and you won't have problem with that 45 degree arc. I'd seen where some of the OPvP guys started going to beams claiming it's higher in DPS because it's easier to keep a broadside, but I personally just thinks it's silly and shows a lack of real skill in an escort.
My first PvP build carried 1 Dual Beam Bank up front with 2 DHC and a torp and 1 Beam Array with 2 turrets. It worked really good with a Beam Overload III on board.

Since I'm just starting to build a dps escort, which energy type works well for the cannons and which type of torp should I run? I've always used photon while leveling up, but I know the others all have their advantages.
This would be a PvE focused setup with an engineering captain. I plan on doing something similar with a tac Orion captain flying a BoP.

Whatever you want really. Some like Anti-Proton for the extra Crit but you lose out on any special that the others have. I've always used Phaser because I like to use Faction specific weapons like the shows. I have had the chance to disable subsystem for it decide some close battles in PvP 1vs1.
Quantums are still considered the best torp. Mainly because the damage they cause and the cooldown ain't but 8 seconds.

Which two copies would you suggest I use of Torp HY or CRF? I know the higher the rank, the better it is, but available tactical slots would also dictate which ones I run.

If you have the 3 Attack Pattern Conn Officers (ones that reduce cooldown) then use 2 copies CRF II with the Omega III (32 second cooldown with doffs).
If not, then use CRF II and I with 2 copies of Omega (III and I).
For HY just use a II and I. If you dont have those Doffs then it will be I and I (use Conns with Tac Team cooldown, 2 purple will give you near global cooldown for your 1 copy) Its how my build is and was before I got those Doffs. Only advantage is I picked them up before most noticed and the price on them went up. Not checked but maybe they went down.

So, either way. Run one copy of TT1?

No, if you have the Attack Pattern Conn Doffs for your Omega III to be at global, you will need 2 Tac Team I's. I'd post my North Carolina build link, but it seems I must of deleted one of the build pictures.

I didn't know there were doffs that reduced Omega III cd.

North Carolina
That's the link to my build. Even though it's missing the gear picture, it still has the duty officer layout and bridge layout. The Zemok Jenro is the one that reduces Attack Pattern cool downs.

It just takes time and researching. It took me months to learn what I actually know, and that's only a fraction of how things work I'm sure. I'm not as update on things much anymore since I don't focus on PvP anymore, but I can still help build something that will put out damage.
