re: STO on the Mac

So, I know i'm probably in the minority here but I love the Mac OS. When I saw STO was going to run on OS X I was thrilled. Currently i'm running STO on a MacBook Air (2014 version):

Model Name: MacBook Air

  Model Identifier: MacBookAir6,2

  Processor Name: Intel Core i5

  Processor Speed: 1.4 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 3 MB

 Memory: 4 GB

Chipset Model: Intel HD Graphics 5000

  Type: GPU

  Bus: Built-In

  VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 1536 MB

The game for me runs fantastic with graphics set to the Medium setting. I've ran STF's, CE, ground and space combat. In my opinion game play is solid. I've got a 23" external monitor connected and it handles the game great.

Anyway, just my two cents on Mac for STO.

The funny thing about Mac's is that they used to be great with some games. For a while after that, they SUCKED for games. Now with OS X, they started making a resurgence.

To maybe answer your question, have you tried using Wine? I know that I've made attempts to play it on Linux but failed. Especially now with that new Arc BS. But I think you'll have much better luck on a Mac, especially now with the Intel-based Macs.

What about Steam?

It helps since Cryptic/PW made a Mac version of STO. I haven't tried running it through steam, I downloaded PW's arc and that's how i'm accessing the game.
