re: Fleet Event Las Vegas 2016
Greetings & Salutations fellow fleeties...
Our away team sent to the Chicago Star Trek Convention 2015 are now en route to there home bases. From what I have been told a good time was had by all. Fleet members have already contacted me to start planning next years meeting which is going to be bigger and better. So with that being said I will be putting together a planning committee to start the planning and logistics. Stay tuned we will be putting additional info has we go along. We will use this thread for any further comments or thoughts. Looking forward to seeing you there...

I'm definitely going to go to at least one ST convention next year, since it'll be the 50th. I'd like to do Vegas also because I've never been there. But, Chicago is easy for me to get to, and is a fun place, too. I probably won't be able to afford to go to both places, but who knows? Anyway, I ran into a volunteer who was helping run the show in the elevator at Chicago, and he told me that if I liked Chicago, that Vegas would blow my mind apart. So, after hearing that, and imagining what the girls in Vegas might be dressed like, I'm pretty sure I'm going!

I'd be interested in this. Vegas is the one to go to. The one I went to in Nashville was cool, but you could tell it wasn't big at all. The only thing that would keep me from going is just what the cost might be.

It's been about 10 years for me, but there is no shortage of women in Las Vegas.

I told my Number One to make it so for Las Vegas, but she insisted that she come also. Oh well, so much for a good time (collar tightening). Planning on taking the long/expensive tour of the Hoover Dam as well. We took the short tour last time, and it is really a interesting tour. On the pricey side, but I highly recommend is dinner at the "Top of the World" at the Stratosphere Tower, just before sunset. It rotates 360 and it's cool to watch the sun go down and the Las Vegas lights come on. After dinner, you can ride the roller coaster on top.

**Bump**
You can never plan a trip too early.
We booked our "free" time-share condo for the week of the convention. Some of my sons are tagging along as well. It will be nice to get of the Florida heat and humidity and just deal with heat.

I'm planning on it. Chicago was fun, but we didn't get out much. We will have to plan "away team" missions for the group.

I went to the Creation website for the Star Trek Las Vegas 2016 event and found this in the verbage:
Due to unprecedented demand, THE RIO SUITES & CASINO is now taking reservations for the 2016 event at special lower than normal room rates! Please link to: https://resweb.passkey.com/go/SRTRE6 For guests that prefer to phone in their reservations, they may call the Reservation Center at 888-746-6955 to secure a reservation on our group block. The name of the group is listed as Star Trek 2016. Callers may also use our group code to identify the convention to get the special rates: SRTRE6. PLEASE NOTE: the convention room block is selling very rapidly (we’ve already had reservations for rooms that come close to the final number at the 2015 event) and though at this time we’ve been able to add additional rooms there will be price rises as we move forward. Kindly reserve as early as you can to get the best rates possible at The Rio. Thanks!
So, if you at going, it would be wise to book the room now, and if you later opt to not go you can cancel with 3 days notice. But book the room, if you are not sure. If the wife doesn't go, I will be looking for roommates as I did in Chicago to cut costs. FYI, with taxes for 5 nights, the room costs $1228.64 (this ids for 2 people). I figured arriving the day before instead of the first day of the event.
JT
Side note: I also included our organization in the application - if we do this they may place our rooms closer together, which may or may not be a good thing:
We can have up to 4 people to a room for an additional $30 a head.

The Mrs. booked us a time-share at "The Villas at Polo Towers," for the week of the convention. It is located at 3745 Las Vegas Blvd. Looks about a 3 block walk to the hotel convention site.
Sometime during the mid-week and in the morning, I would like to organize a "3 hour tour" of the Hoover Dam. Need to get a headcount. I know it is early, but trying to arrange a group tour with transportation.
Beside the convention, any other ideas for group or spouse events? My wife indicated she might be interested in one day of the convention, but that would be about it. Other spouses/girl friends might feel the same way. I know in the summer it is important to find inside events/venues. What to do in Las Vegas if you don't gamble?

No accommodations as of yet. She who must be obeyed may also tolerate one convention day. She is not yet sold on the adventure...working on side adventures as well - any thoughts most welcome.
