well, i have been following the rift for a long time..it is the defacto name in VR-kinda like coke original, brought the whole VR back to vocabulary since it faded from memory in 1999 or so.
dont know the big differences between the two, but rift has been in development way longer, has open SDK, and is kinda the benchmark for all the others coming out.
as far as specs go, you will need a new video card, suggest nvidia 800 series or better. video card must be VR ready-it will list it as a feature.
the GPU handles most of the gaming, so thats the biggest piece you will need. a decent system would be like an i5 2ghz and 8gb ram.
im running off 3yr old i7 and 32gb ram..but my card(s) need an upgrade too. currently 2x gti 680's..so i would say for me, a $300-500 video card investment (not including the rift unit) is needed.
the dk2 rift is sold out, so it now cost $600 for a rift. sigh.
