re: temperance

0
Classically, temperance was defined as governing natural appetites for the pleasure of senses according to the bounds of reason. No virtue could be sustained in the face of inability to control oneself, if the virtue was opposed to some desire; this is why it is classified as a cardinal virtue, where "cardinal" signifies "pivotal."

The virtues of abstinence, chastity, and modesty are considered sub-classes of the virtue of temperance, as it governs the practice of eating and drinking, practice of sexual intercourse, and the restraint of vanity.

Just trying to jump into the swing of things. I suppose that when it is time to choose a ship name, I would use one of the following:

USS Warthog - When I was active duty USAF, we had two squadrons of A-10s at my base.

My father is Ret Navy and I might choose from some of the ship names he served on:

USS Towers
USS Sterrett
USS Lenawee

See ya in Feb!

I am totally surprised no one picked my favorite ship of all time. I would like to register the USS RELIANT NCC-103106.

Though I think if you should choose the Reliant you should keep the same registry number: NCC-1864.

Just my thoughts Happy

As a further note I'm pretty sure Cryptic isn't going to allow the well known ship names to be used. That way there aren't hundreds of U.S.S. Enterprises galavanting around the galaxy.

I debated a bit over this, but finally chose to stay with a historic ship.

USS Bonhomme Richard
NCC 1779

The ship that John Paul Jones sailed in famous battle vs. HMS Serapis. The NCC number is obviously the year that the battle took place.

USS Viking NCC 1030

Heavy Escort Vessel

Why it fits - The Vikings were a very militaristic people. As a militaristic ship captain the name will fit my vessel.

The Vikings are known for exploration as much as they are for raiding and warfare. In fact, the word viking means to go on an overseas journey. This aspect of the word viking makes a Starfleet vessel by that name more believable in canon.

As an additional point of comparison Vikings were from a northern climate with very severe winters and cold weather. My character, Sybereon Snow is Andorian...doesnt get much colder.

1030 AD is the "official" date historians have placed as the end of Viking existence. Thus, the USS Viking NCC 1030 is the last of the Vikings. Happy

I figured it wouldn't be fitting to use her NCC if she wasn't recovered and refitted. To my knowledge there was no remains recovered or restored. If you are right and Cryptic denies the name, then I would like to reserve the USS Alamo NCC 103106 (historicly NCC 2035 non canon I think)

I haven't played quite enough to know how specific you can customize the 'role' of your ship, but I'm planning on something along the lines of a ship with very high defense; some kind of an escort/barrier ship.

NC-3381: USS Bulwark

A play on the fact that a bulwark is part of a ship built to protect those on the deck and is a general and is also a general term for a structure meant to reinforce, protect, or strengthen. I was also considering for names "Deathless", though that seems a little out of place.
