MISSION AFTERMATH
THREAD OPEN

PLease use this thread to continue your part in the Sword of Michael storyline.

A F T E R M A T H begins with an excited voice communication from Admiral Turner to Fleet Admiral Fortin.

. . Joe, We pretty much got those soulless insects sir, no worries, what concerns me is the aftermath. Someone is just going to notice that black hole! . . I know, calm down, I know the story.

I knew we picked the right man for this job, Loki, . . I mean The General Sir, Kelley, I mean, we did it sir, we did it! It was just a theory then, and now . . well,
sorry sir, I am rambling, but this Embry fellow has done something, something, even more terrifying with it, and we aren't excactly sure what.

Lt. Col. Yoshinda and I arrived at meeting room 7A on the 7th fleet HDQ admin level. I lightly knocked on the door and opened it a bit, no one was present. I breathed a sigh of relief, at least we wouldn't walk into an expectant room. I waved Col. Yoshinda in, we would probably have the time to set up our presentation, all the A.V. was in place and all I need do was link my PDA into the provided ports and bingo there it was, the picture to greet all the arrivee's was up and ready. Now to wait.....

as I exit the turbolift and make my way down the dimly lit service tunnels I am thinking, why, why
are service tunnels always so poorly lit, a call from Admiral Fortin interrupts my train of thought,

“Admiral Turner, let me know when the
team is assembled. Fortin out”. . tap . . “Affirmative Sir!”
so much to do, so little time.
sigh. . tap tap . . “Mr. Sims, we are ready, take security team alpha and begin the escort of
Tasson Embry, in cuffs, to 7A b1” . . tap dbl tap . . “Mikey, I want Embry awake but rambling
and incoherent, understood!” . . tap . . Tarl, move out! – Nakamura, go! – Scully, stand by . .
tap p tap . . Morgan, have you received the EWPC’s from Science Officer Sorvak? . . tap swipe . .
Turner out . . tap and hold, release and exhale. Now I wait for the chorus of replies.

Sims, aye. Mikey, ok. Tarl, moving sir, Nakamura, gone sir! Scully, standing by. Morgan, sir yes sir.

I replace the silver cap of my flask, a flask which was a gift from Lt. Commander Kelley as I recall.
Slide it back in pocket, pause at the door, adjust my medals and go in. I am pleased to see that
only the General and his team have arrived, and in good form I might add. Jack greets me with
a proper salute, a clever grin, and a painfully strong handshake.

re: 7th Fleet Briefing...Room 7A

<SIGH> Looking over my dress uniform one more time in the full length mirror, I decided I was as ready as I will ever be and headed for the turbolift towards transporter room 4. Commander Phelps was there when I arrived and we both stepped upon the platform.

I looked at the transporter chief, "Lt. Yakamura, you have the coordinates I asked you to send us to locked in?" "Aye, Sir! but isn't it...?". "Yes, it is...but hang the consequences! They need to know what we can do with this new technology! They think they are completely shielded in there!". " Aye, Aye Sir!". I look at my 1st Officer "Uno, you can opt out of this if you want...". Morgan looks over at me and states; "No regrets sir, I like living on the edge!". "I will remind you of that over the course of our courtsmartial if it comes to that!" I reply with a smirk. "Toshi, energize!"..."Aye, Aye sir!"

A brief glimmer, a soft "pop" sound and my first officer and I were standing upon the dias in the heavily shielded briefing room of the 7th fleet. It was not a packed crowd, but Brg. Gen. J Loki Kelly, Lt. Col. Yoshinda and DFA "Angus" Turner were there and they were apparently quite appropriately surprised!

"Whoa" I shouted, "Not so fast General!", I said as Jack stood there, a MK IV Phaser leveled on both myself and my 1st Officer.

after I get the all clear from Admiral Turner, Admiral Mullen, my superior and
The Joint Chiefs of Staff United Federation of Planets, and I, make our way to the briefing room,

as our security team enters the room I notice a quick silence,

I look up and see some of my closest associates in front of me General Kelly, Captain Yatug and my
good friend Admiral Turner, Gentlemen, may I present Admiral Mullen. salutes all around.

at ease, before we begin, I would like to offer a toast for a job well done!

"Gentlemen, your work today has been outstanding, and I intend to recommend you all for promotion... in whatever fleet we end up serving."

Well, let's get down to business... ... Mr. Kelley, bring us up to speed on
the weapons deployment. Yeoman start the minutes please...

The Briefing room seems daunting as I consider what will soon take place in here, although I've been through hundreds of such debriefings, I know this will be no normal meeting. I'm a little surprised by Captain Yatug's unannounced entrance with his first officer at his side. I'm even more surprised by Brigadier general Kelleys battle trained reflex speed. It took me a full second longer to have my phaser on a target.
"Whoa, not so fast General!" Said captain Yatug.
"Stand down, Lt. Col" Came a quick response from the General.
I lowered my phaser, feeling just a little tense.
Within minutes a security team is arriving signaling the arrival of the Top Brass. With a deep breath my feeling suddenly makes the tenseness I had been feeling seem mild.

"Thank you sir" I gave a quick nod to Admiral Fortin. "Admiral Mullen
glad you could join us sir".
"This picture before us here is the end result of weapons deployment".
More specifically this shows what the LMS weapon has done to a host world. All previous testing indicated the possibility that the LMS weapon could lead to the destruction of a planet, the usage of the weapon on the alien home world proves this once and for all.
Let me get every one up to speed.
What was known of the LMS: Reduction of the second null field would activate the singularity, it would gradually suck in the local atmosphere and light objects. It was believed that mechanisms built into it (the LMS device) could be manipulated so that the singularity could be controlled, stopped at a given time interval. In simplified terms, one could turn it on and then off, controlling the destruction rendered by the device. Previous testing of the device indicated that it would (in deployment) work according to or along a set time line.
Additional testing also indicated that the LMS device could devestate a city sized area or render a world uninhabitable by sucking in it's entire atmosphere. Computer models showed time after time that it would become incredibly heavy and sink to the center of a potential planet
continue to draw it's surroundings into its'self eventually destroying the planet. Let me remind everyone that there was repeated testing of the device in simulation and twice on nondescript asteroids not once was there any real difference in the test results, every one followed the set pattern.
This was the situation as we knew it.
There was an enemy a known xenophobe bent on destroying all other life forms in it's steller locale. We had tried diplomacy, that cost 2 vessels 2 high level diplomats and countless crew. It cost at least 2 dozen worlds every lifeform on them. These worlds were sterilized without any warning or mercy.
Any questions to this point?

The Stille Jager under Captain Perry was dispatched to find a last ditch way to reach the enigmatic aliens and or possible find the enemy homeworld. After a month there was still no word from the Stille Jager and we could not raise her under any method. Admiral Fortin then dispatched the Centurion from this star base and Admiral Turner and the Nevada would rendevous with the Centurion deep in the enemies territory at a new and top secret location in an attempt to find the Stille Jager.
My vessel entered the dead zone 1st, we were barely past the border when an unknown comm problem was found and an even worse problem arose in our sensor array, the Nevada soon joined us and we eventually gained some minimal communication between the vessels. At this point both vessels came under attack from what we deduced to be the aliens. The data is still being studied, but what is known is that the majority were kinetic energy weapons. These weapons posed a series of problems, as there sheer mass simply overloaded some shields and their speed neutralized many counter measures. It was at this time that engineering aboard the Nevada came up with a way using gravimetrics to envelope the enemy weapons, thereby giving both vessels a path to the enemy homeworld.

Lt Col Steile enters the briefing room and quietly take a position behind General Kelley and hands the General a stack of of various fleet engineering status reports. "My apologies gentlemen for being late."

Gentlemen Lt. Col. Steile has brought some of the engineering data that we were waiting for to back up the report. While it mostly pertains to the enemies kinetic weaponry fired at the Centurion and Nevada we have been analyzing how these weapons were brought up to or given the velocity that they carried. That that data is contained herein, "Thank you Col. Steile."
When the Centurion and Nevada arrived at the coordinates given by admiral Turner we found a planet encircled by a massive amount of enemy interference both electronic and physical. As such communication was once more fried on both vessels and we were once again under attack. There we also found to our chagrin orbiting defense platforms which also commenced an attack on both vesels. The only good thing at this point was the discovery of the Stille Jager badly beat up but still hanging on.

The crew of both the Centurion and Nevada began at once to defend themselves putting the stricken Stille Jager between the two of them. The Centurion put a defensive shield out to encompass both the Stille Jager and herself. An attack party was beamed onto the closest platform under the command of Lt. Col Yoshinda and attacked the platforms from the inside to augment the attacks by the two fleet vessels. When the nearest platforms were taken out, a group was formed to beam down and deploy the LMS weapon. It included Admiral Turner, Tasson Embry and 2 security personnel from the Nevada, as well as myself and a 12 member combat team from the Centurion. The planet side team brought a field shield generator and a heavy plasma cannon to engage the LMS.

Pardon me Jack, if I might just interject for a moment, It was a difficult mission against an unknown evil entity, many great men made the ultimate sacrifice, we got in, we got out, we set off the device. the science is interesting and right on target, or so we thought. It wasn’t soon after Embry initiated the LMS that everything began to change, Tasson muttered something about a bell, his bell, and we needed to leave immediately, the device was on a hair trigger. General, what new data do you have on the aftermath or what Tasson did to cause it?

"Right you are Admiral."
While the marines and myself defended Admiral Turner and Tasson Embry they engaged the shield generator and began using the plasma cannon on the LMS device.
The LMS device was rapidly more violent then any test had shown, it was also........well faster. It seemed sped up somehow. The planet side events happened in such a haze, a blur of whirrling debris, flying shell casings, incoming projectiles of all sorts, utter chaos. As Admiral Turner has said several men went down, the shields started to fail, but somehow Admiral Turner and Embry got the first null shield down, and things rapidly deteriorated. The noise level from the atmosphere being drawn into the LMS was incredibly, the debris flying around was quadrupled, and we drew in the security cordon as our men went down. Somehow Admiral Turner deployed a transporter beacon and I saw Admiral Turner and Tasson Embry making their way to the beacon. He signaled time to go, so the unwounded did their best to move their comrades to the beacon. In an amazing feat of skill the engineering sections of both vessels had cobbled a means together to find us and get us out.
Once again let me say that everything about the deployment of the LMS seemed amiss, as the LMS was far too rapidly sucking into its'self far greater amounts of planet then it should ever have been, at a far faster rate. The planet seemed to be shaking after only a few minutes of deployment. In all honesty we were lucky to make it out.

The crewman of all the vessels involved did one hell of a job to ready the vessels for departure. It proved fortuitous for as the vessels got underway it was obvious that the planet was doomed. At roughly the 4 hour mark after deployment the LMS device destroyed the alien home world. This is fully 92 hours faster to complete annihilation.
We are still compiling data to determine why things went the way they did.
I for one am not sure that we may ever understand.
I believe that the LMS weapon was altered in some way, in the manufacturing process. It was far to secure thereafter to be accessed.
I still believe in the rightness of the LMS weapon and the mission as a whole.
These are the facts as I know them.
