7th Fleet Silver Palm



Awarded to members whose singular action or sacrifice benefits the greater fleet as a whole.

The 7th Fleet Silver Palm is hereby awarded to Captain Ardell and Commander P'Rett for their selfless actions during this weekend's Fleet Event. You've definitely earned it, gentlemen.

CoS Edit: The award in this case is given to Prett and Mac because they sacrificed their slot and participation in the main fleet action to make sure that a couple of our new Ensigns would not feel like they were being left out. Rather than go to the Undine Action, they grouped up with Talyn and Kor (if I recall correctly) and assisted them with some missions to help them get some needed in game experience.

Umm...which fleet action was this? "Save the Whales" or the "Infected" run?

If it was for the "Save the Whales", I'd also think that Admiral Shackelford is deserving. You sir, took the top score, so I recommend you for this award....I'm sure I can get a participant to second that?

While I appreciate the sentiment Blod, this particular award wouldn't be the right one to recommend for a top scorer in a Fleet Action. Think of it as the Meritorious Service Medal's little brother. Whereas the MSM is awarded for someone who has performed a number of services to the benefit of the fleet as a whole over their career with the 7th, the Silver Palm is meant to award a single act of service; and both of these awards can be given for non combat situations.

Top scorer in a Fleet Action may be worthy of mention for a Silver Star or other combat medal; though in this particular case I don't feel deserving. The Fleet Actions come with their own in game award for scoring first, namely a nice trophy for my ship.

Combat awards have to be something that really makes the people around you go 'Wow,' such as the instance when Savar finished off the Borg Queen in Infected after the rest of his team had fallen. Or that one time when Turner healed somebody.

To answer your other question, I added a bit more explanation to the original post as to why we are awarding this to Mac and Prett.

I appreciate the recognition; I'm going to say that I simply did what I felt was the right thing to do, especially having been in similar shoes before (both in STO and other MMOs).

That's precisely why you rec'd it. If you'd done it to get a medal, you wouldn't have gotten one, if that makes any kind of sense

What you and Mac did is something of a rarity when it comes to the general MMO community, and the admiralty felt that you two definitely deserved some recognition for your kindness. The idea that we are all in this together as a team is certainly a spirit we wish to foster and nourish, because it makes the fleet stronger than our numbers might suggest.

As one of the Ensigns that was given Fleet support that night, I'd like to say that I had a great time thanks to Captain Ardell and Commander P'Rett. We couldn't do the Fleet Action stuff we wanted to do because of in-game limitations, but they took us through a bunch of daily missions, some of which I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Thanks very much guys! You deserve this fine award.
