I'm wondering if that is foreshadowing of Star Wars The Old Republic vs. Star Trek Online?

I predict that STO will go F2P shortly after SWTOR launches. If it doesn't, Cryptic's subscription and (everything good) in MT store model will drive perhaps 80% of the subscriber base away.

SWTOR is actually developing into a game that is that good. And, I was as skeptical as someone could be.

No. Simply a video that someone thought would be cool to make. Guarantee there was no foreshadowing of anything behind it. Just a cool "check this out" kinda thing...

Agreed. I grew up a huge Star Wars fan, always have been. I've always watched Star Trek cause my dad has always been a huge fan, but not me so much. I didn't became big into Star Trek till STO to be honest. I was excited about the idea of having my own ship to be captain of and fly around in doin mission, until season 4 I just dealt with ground hated it.

All that being said me being huge Star Wars fan......I currently have no interest in a World of Warcraft spin off of Star Wars. I've already read and seen they are going for the same WoW cartoon look. You throw in a Star Trek formula, with heavy space where I can fly around like on STO blowing stuff up.....sure I'm game. But I consider myself a huge Star Trek fan too now. I just don't see people leaving STO. To many trekkies and the one key thing this game has is Devs that are fans and constantly interact with it's players.

You'll always have trekkies and Star Wars fans or both. Ppl will play what they want. I, like i imagine most of 7th since it's focus IS Star Trek, stand by STO. My 2 cent.

I think you may be reading to much into this video.. I don't see 80% of the player base leaving the game.. That's a massive number. Besides, I think people will be playing both games.

Actually that video is a bit older than even the first released videos of SWTOR, I was really just joking about the foreshadowing thing.

As for SWTOR being a Star Wars skin of WOW, I can only speak of WOW from its first year, and SWTOR is nothing like it.

Most importantly, from the last beta phase, to the current one, Bioware has actually improved the story for some of the classes. So beta is not just fixing bugs and balancing classes, it is actually impacting the storylines as well.

As for STO, I see that October will be a big month for the game. That is the scheduled release of the Duty Officer system, which will unlock the other promised features (particularly Klingon Raiding and Open World PVP).

The point of this post was not to start a huge STO vs SWTOR debate. Why can't you just chuckle, say it's funny, then leave it at that? Is it necessary to flame every thread with the same crap?
