Patch Revisions, Concerns, and the Ships store

Some of the ship patches I've created during my tenure have relied on images I didn't create myself. Sometimes, these images were under copyright or license.

If I want to share my work outside of the Fleet, some patches will need to be revised. In addition, if they are in the store, the revised versions will replace what is there currently.

I am working to receive permissions from other artists where feasible; in other cases, I know better than to even ask.

Perhaps I should've known better; but in the beginning, none of this was terribly serious. We were just using them on this site only, and I didn't concern myself too much with the store issues because hey - we're probably breaking CBS/Paramount copyright by selling stuff with Star Trek symbols all over it.

But I've learned a lot, and maybe someday I can turn this into more than a hobby. Apparently I have a knack for it. If it's ever going to expand beyond forum signatures, I need to start off by doing the right thing.

Some revisions will likely be barely noticeable, others may have major impact. In any case, if your ship patch is one of those I need to revise, you are welcome to use the revision, and I will also offer to make a new one for you from scratch.

Since I will likely be logging in to the Store with some frequency, this is also a good time to ask me to put something in there for you if it isn't there now.

I will update this thread with revision and info as it occurs. My two major concerns right now are for the USS Challenger patch (Talbot) and the USS Marines patch (Augerson). The Leyte Gulf (Mavendorf) will require a revision for certain.

Not a huge deal, since TF's no longer apply, but there it is. A good example of how a copyright issue can make a major impact on a patch. Stay tuned for more.

Many people choose the easy wrong thing over the hard right thing...I applaud you for choosing the hard right Sir...I'll miss the old patch but the new one is up to your high standards!
