Captain Bor'annus p'Rett, Captain, USS Phalanx

This will be my last log as the commanding officer of the Phalanx. With the steady combat she's seen, a disturbing warp field dissonance has emerged. The efforts of my Engineering department were nothing short of exemplary in trying to diagnose and reverse the disruption. To that end, she'll be going into the yards at Utopia Planetia for them to tear down and look over; hopefully they can figure it out.

Though it's a bit sad to part ways with such a fine vessel, I can't help but smile in light of what the Phalanx going into drydock has brought about. My home planet has finally agreed to part with some of our Kumari-line escorts for use by the Federation. I was pleased when Command informed me I'd been considered a "natural choice" to captain one of these fine vessels.

Not nearly as robust a ship as this Regent refit I've been captaining, it is a ship that rewards skillful and cunning captains. It will help me hone my edge once more. I couldn't think of a more fitting and appropriate name for my new command - Ushaan-tor - named for the honor duel blades that have razor sharp edges.

With it being a much smaller craft, a lot of my crew will be transferring elsewhere, and I wish them success. One new addition to my command crew is an Orion female named Nerlo; she is a skilled scientist and am curious to see how well she fits in with the rest. I'd say it's odd...but when that same crew boasts a Breen, Jem'hadar and former Borg...it's not nearly as odd as it used to be.

*snorts*

IDIC, indeed, you sneaky Vulcan bastards.

End Log

The crew and I are all settled into the quarters aboard this magnificent ship. She flies like a dream and "packs a lot of heat" as a pinkskin saying goes. In addition to her on-board firepower, there are two linked, deployable cannon pods for just a little extra.

Not long after completing the initial shakedown cruise, we got word KDF forces were en route to Starbase 643. We made best speed to the fleet base, and drove off the marauding forces. We suffered some minor damage and wounded personnel, but nothing that we couldn't recover from. It's a tough little ship, and I look forward to testing her some more.

We were en route to the Azure Nebula at the behest of the Romulan refugee nation, headed by D'Tan. Reports of Romulan vessels disappearing in that vicinity have become more frequent, and the fledgling nation needs whatever defenses it can muster. As much as I want to trust D'Tan, there's part of me that would be quite happy leaving those Romulan vessels "lost" - but then that would ask a more important question - Who has them and why?

Okay, so that was two questions; I'm a warrior, not a scholar.

Approximately two hours before our expected arrival, we were contacted by Lt Majere. He and his crew had picked up a faint distress signal from the IKS Kang; they were disabled and had detected Borg warp signatures on an intercept vector. I directed Cdr Kyn to plot a course to the Kang's location and to tear a hole in subspace if necessary to get us there in time.

We may be at war with the Klingons, but they don't deserve such a fate.

"Penance is over!"

That was my first thought after being notified by Starfleet Command I'd been selected to command one of the Kumari-line escorts Andoria had transferred over. Though the D'Kyr science vessel I'd commanded was a reliable vessel - the Vulcans do know how to build a science ship, can't dispute that - it was lacking in...bite. Even though our peoples have been at peace and allies for years, I must be a bit of a throwback, since I don't completely trust a species that abandons their emotions.

My cousin, Captain p'Rett, has counseled a more open viewpoint, and I can't really dispute the logic of it. The logic of it - it tastes wrong on the tongue, like that disgusting beverage the pinkskins call "Guiness."

I've kept my command crew from the P'Jem, as they all were intrigued at being able to serve on board a Khyzon-class escort.

Commander Voll'min Alzynaph remains my first officer; as a fellow Andorian, she's the next most familiar with the vessel and its capabilities. There goes the priority message alert - more Borg vessels inbound.
