This day always reminds me of this quote below from a WWI hero...
“America must win this war. Therefore, I will work, I will save, I will sacrifice, I will endure, I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the issue of the whole struggle depended on me alone.” ~ Pvt. Martin A. Treptow
The only thing I would add to the President's speech is...
"...there lives also ended in places called Baghdad, Anbar, Diyala, Basra, Karbala, Kirkuk, Kabul, Kandahar, Helmand and many others, too great in number to name them all..."

I know we have several members within the fleet that are prior and active military and we also have several non-military patriots as well. I encourage each of you to add to the list of places I created above...places where you lost a brother or sister in the pursuit of freedom...

Thank you Sir, to the above. I would like to add: USS Cole (DDG-67), USS Liberty (AGTR-5), USS Panay (PR-5), and the USS Pueblo (AGER-2).
Lest we forget.

Let's also keep in mind those whose final fate is unknown and whose families must bear that burden.

514th is a sister company of the 211th MP and 163rd AMSC under the 105th MP BN, both units of which I served with. Several of my 211th buddies went with them. Although I never knew the 3 above, I seen their faces many times at BN for annual medicals/admin. All 3 were killed within 3 weeks I believe of being there. Unit just came home few weeks ago.

In Memory of Captain John Tipton HHC 1/16 Infantry who died on May 2nd 2004 in Iraq. He was one of the finest officers I served with and his loss was felt by the entire Battalion
In memory of SFC(ret) Freddie A Bonetti, a stellar soldier and one of the finest men I've ever known...we served together for almost a decade and I owe him my life. Died on April 26th 2013
