But it doesn't look to me like it's actually attached to a turret of any kind. It says 'spare parts box' on it. My guess is that it's installed at head level, and when you open it, it hits you in the face. Hence the smart ass warning.

I would guess a cargo plane, C-5, C-130 maybe?
