Gentlemen,

I will be taking a leave from STO, beginning 4/12/11. My subscription is up on that day, and I find myself pulled too thin both financially and in time.

I will continue to be active in:

EVE Online - with the 7th Fleet Affiliated Corps (Scraps)

Rift (6 months) - with the 7th Fleet Affiliated Guilds there (Seventh Dragonslayers Brigade).

With Star Wars The Old Republic on the verge of release, I will need to make some room in my wallet and my time for that.

I fully expect that SWToR will fully occupy much of this fleet's time, when it is released. I look forward to my continued participation with this fleet on thses forums, in vent and in both EVE and Rift.

I do foresee my return to STO when season 4 is released, in the summer, when I will have a great deal more time available.

Ezreq

Based on discussions/comments on Vent, I knew this was a matter of "when," not "if." Hopefully season 4 will bring some goodness everyone can enjoy.

See you over in New Eden.

Well Sir, I'm not sure the "Reserves" is necessary. I will continue, if not increase my activity in both EVE and Rift, and make way for my 7th Fleet activity in SWTOR when it is released.

Furthermore, my activity here on the forums and in Vent, will not change. So the question is:

Can we not remain on "Active Status" with the fleet, even if we are not playing STO?

This is of course a very important question, especially with the upcoming release of Star Wars The Old Republic, just around the corner 9May or June). My finaincial limit is three MMOs.

I would think being placed on the reserves in the STO side of things would be appropriate as you won't be playing the game. You state that you will only be playing three games... EVE, Rift, and SWTOR, thus not STO.

I think the larger issue here is the following:

Should someone give up a command position they hold in a specific game if they decide to leave said game? To be honest I say yes, they should. I believe this is an important question that should be addressed now to eliminate questions in the future.

Nothing against you Mr Blod, but if you aren't going to be playing STO why would you not want to be placed on reserve status? This status should not effect your standing in any of the other games in which you are actually participating, so honestly I don't see the problem.

My question is....Does "Reserve Status" apply to being in the 7th Fleet, or being in STO.

My thought on the matter is that the 7th Fleet is bigger than anyone game. We are a gaming community, that started in STO, but it is clearly not going to remain exclusive to STO.

We probably have more of a presence in EVE at any given time. I'm almost certain that once SWTOR is released our presence in that game will exceed both STO and EVE.

As for "My Command" of TF 88, that was passed over too Mavendorf who is now the CO of TF 88. My position in the fleet is currently C.I.O. (Chief Intelligence Officer) which is a command staff position, so there is no conflict with my absense from STO interfering with TF 88's Ops in-game.

All of this will of course be moot, when three eventualities takes place. First, when Season 4 is released....I will return to STO. Second, when Admiral Fortin creates the 7th Fleet's guild over in SWTOR, that will likely produce this same question I'm raising now. Third, when my subscription runs out on Rift (6 months) I will possibly have room again in my time and budget to bring STO back in.

I will raise this question at the next Command Staff meeting, so that everyone has the opportunity to weigh in on it.

Oh for crying out loud just let the man take a break from the game for a bit. Can't we just pretend he's on shore leave?

Thanks for the support....and what is funny is that I could have just quietly let my STO sub expire and said nothing. Showed up to the next staff meeting in vent, and continued to appear on the forums and in EVE, and none would have been the wiser.

I'm too honest for my own good sometimes. But, this is an issue that will have to be addressed at higher levels than me, because I can see others have a similar issue when SWTOR is released.....Open Beta will likely be next month (May) and launch sometime in June. These are not "official" but I've read enough "closed beta" comments that would lead me to believe that their muzzles are off, and open beta is just around the corner.

We all know that they will release a game that is 60 - 70% complete, and hope they have 90 days after launch to get the first patch done.

Fleet leadership should decide on what sort of precedent to set, and once set, we should all abide by it and support it. I agree this should be discussed and decided at the next staff meeting. Exceptions to policy are a good thing, but only when done in a manner that doesn't suggest preferential treatment.

Let me try and clarify this as much as I can.

First, guildluanch - the company that we are using for our websites - do not currently support multi game rosters. So, we have seperate websites for each game, and we're really only talking about three games, right now; Eve and Rift.

I don't even count Rift, as there is only myself and 2 others over there; and that guild has it's own vent server and is not branded with the 7th. The Rift guild that is branded to the 7th is pretty much kaput.

So that roster as it appears on this website is your status within the STO fleet. Your status, rank, and whatever else is appropriate for Eve, or any other game, is whatever appears on the whatever other site you are using for whatever other guild is associated with that game. We are not necessarily transposing the STO fleet command structure to other games; that is to say, if Mr. Fortin signed up for Eve tomorrow he would not be de facto in charge of the 7th fleet Eve corp. So clearly, the leadership structures, ranking system, and even politics to some extent are going to be different for every game.

If you need a leave of absence from STO, go on the reserves. If you have no intention of returning to STO, but are still going to be playing Eve (and possibly SWToR in the future) and would like to keep access to the Fleet ventrilo, then you do, in fact, remain on the STO roster - but are assigned to SB643 on inactive/othergame status. We want everyone to stay on the same ventrilo server, but we also want to know who is using it, so for this reason, Mr. Fortin has asked that anyone who is going to use it sign up for the STO page, whether they intend to play STO or not.

Now, and this is very important, and let me be perfectly clear -

Your leadership position and rank within the STO fleet is dependent upon your participation level in STO. Same as your rank and position in Eve is dependent on your participation level in that game. Or, should I apply to the Corp there and immediately demand full control be handed over to me based on my seniority in STO?

These are seperate guilds with crossovers in the roster that share a voicecomm and a brand name. If you aren't going to be playing STO, then you don't have a voice in what actions the STO fleet takes, and vice versa with the Eve fleet.

That pretty much sums up what I thought to be true. Thank you for the clarification Shack.

Refer to the Fleet Operations Manual;

http://www.area42wraps.com/PDF/FLEETROPS4.pdf

The applicable article is

Sub Directive D18 A 1.4
An officer may only be on leave for a
maximum of 90 days, after that they
will be placed as inactive and their position
opened up. This allowance must be approved
and may be prohibited or extended by the
Fleet Executive Officers.

I recommend approving Commodore Blodvaerd's request for leave of absence and revisiting at the 90 day mark. Any number of other officers are capable of fulfilling his duties as Chief of Intelligence if the need so arises.

Hoo-yah procedures!
