Thankfully, there is a fix/workaround:

Type /defaultautoattack 1

If it's a ship you haven't captained before, right-click on the weapons you want to autofire first, then type the command.

Lol same here, unfortunately the first thing I did was do cure space and for 5min couldn't figure out why my ship wasn't firing.

I heard that you have to do this every time you log in, can anyone confirm that?

Not sure yet; will check soon.

EDIT: Confirmed, you have to type it again if you've logged the character out.

Some of us had problems with not all weapons being online after the command was entered; if this happens try entering the command line in Local chat mode rather than in Fleet. I tried switching from Fleet to Local and typed it in again and it worked and activated all the weapons.

Update as of late last night: I still had trouble getting autofiring to work on my various ships, but found that if I kept trying the command /defaultautoattack 1 and another one /toggledefaultattack [I think; you start typing /toggle and it autocompletes and you can choose between the appropriate one and a screen resizing one]. By banging away at them sometimes for a few minutes at a time I was able to get them to eventually work. I don't think the chat mode has anything to do with it. I just got lucky and got it to work one time when switching modes and assumed that was it, but later it didn't help after switching to my next ship.

I hope they fix that soon, it's a pain in the ass. In the mean time I guess I'll set up a single key press to fire everything in case I can't get them all working.

Hopefully they're patching the game right now, it's down for an hour.

I suppose that's the smart way to do it; save torps for open shields and all that, but I like to live life in the fast lane, everything, all the time...
