I've only seen big E once in person and I'll never forget that sight. She'll be deactivated on December 1. To bad she won't become a museum. She deserves better. Hopefully the seas won't be without a ship named Enterprise for too long. Thank you to her and the men and women who have served.

I served for two years onboard her a decade ago. She has always been more than just a ship. While keeping her at sea is hard, I think she holds a special place in the hearts of everyone who has served in her. It will be a sad day to see her finally deactivated.

My dad actually war very emotional when I told him. He was onboard during Nam.( wasn't tec. Stationed on her) his foundest memery of her (at least the one ive heard the most) is he was scared shitless the first time he saw a catapult launch. He said its not like In the movies where a jet gets to the end of the deck and goes up. They disappear off the end, and then obout a couple hundred feet out it starts to rise, he said he ran to the end of the deck because he though it crashed

My ship did some Fleet Ops with her back in the late 70's. She was impressive sight indeed. Her attached Air Wing did a Air Show for us as well. Never realized how versatile the F-14's where until that day. She deserves to be a museum somewhere.

The reason they can't make her a museum is that to remove the reactors they have to cut HUGE holes in the hull and apparently that makes her unrepairable/unsuitable for a museum....as well as unstable....the possibliity exists that once she has her reactors removed she could actually roll over.
