Members of the 7th,

Have an idea for a storyline.  Still fleshing it out, but it all starts with this message, sent from a damaged ship somewhere it isn't supposed to be.  Read the message, and let me know what you thing, as well as any ideas you have.  Thanks.  THIS IS AN EXERCISE.

PS: NUCFLASH is an old codeword used by the US Military for a nuclear explosion; OMEGA PROTOCOL is used by Starfleet for any detection of or any involvement with the Omega Particle.

A radius of 7 to 22 light years is frigging huge. For something to put out that much energy at that distance relatively immediately...

Hence the "oh shit!" vibe you get from the message.  It's the sound of a decorated veteran having a panic attack in bureaucratic language.  :) It also MIGHT not be that bad everywhere...if I'm in a good mood.

I have to ask is this in the realms of forum RP? in game? or perhaps even a foundry mission? I'll be able to give better feedback after that...

I get that; I still assert that a radius of 7 to 22 light years is going to have some serious repercussions beyond that area.

This would either be forum RP or a multi-part foundry campaign.  Expect a Captain's Log on this sometime today or tomorrow.

Your post got me thinking (can you smell the wood burning?) --

The destruction of Praxis.  Two things come to mind:  1) would not an explosion of that magnitude also rip/tear off the atmosphere of Qo'noS (Kronos)?  2) Capt Sulu mention he was coming back from several years in the Beta Quadrant; on STO, Sela mentions she went to the Beta Quadrant as part of her exile and was going back to find potential allies to fight against the Iconians.  Points to ponder.

CAPTAIN'S LOG

USS MIST RAVEN

STARDATE UNKNOWN

LOG BEGINS

NUCFLASH.  OMEGA PROTOCOL.  Three simple codewords, yet they're words a Starfleet CO never wants to hear.  Yesterday, I heard both of them.

Systems are still a mess; I don't even know the stardate with any real confidence.  Probably shouldn't be recording all this in an official log...but if we don't make it, I want there to be something for the crews that find us.  Maybe it'll help them piece together what happened out here.  We were with USS Icarus, providing recon support for them.  I don't know what they were doing; CPT Nakarou wouldn't tell me.  Orders were secret squirrel classified; even my codes wouldn't unlock them.  I was just told to provide Icarus whatever support they needed.  We were well away from them.  Did they know what might happen and wanted us in a place where we might survive?  Or did they want us away so we wouldn't ask awkward questions?

At 0629L, it happened.  A massive explosion; so powerful it washed out our sensors.  It unleashed some kind of energy wave.  We saw it coming, but it moved too fast.  It cut thorough our shields like a knife through butter.  I'm still trying to figure out how we survived.  A lot of my crew didn't.  After the wave passed, we were in bad shape.  Lots of systems down, dead and wounded all over the ship, and no idea what happened.

We're doing a little better now.  We've got warp drive online, so we're limping our way back to the nearest starbase.  Got long range sensors back too.  Hotep Colony isn't there anymore...can't see much beyond that.  The subspace interference in that area is like nothing I've ever seen before.  Luckily, the wave wasn't as powerful as we first thought...relatively speaking.  It seems to have traveled about 9LY in all directions.  I don't know what else has been hit.  USS Icarus has gone dark.  I can't say exactly what happened to her, but after the damage we took, it must have been destroyed.  Even if she wasn't, we're in no shape for a rescue.  Main power is still unstable, we're barely keeping up with the casualties we've already taken, weapons are still offline, and I have no idea what caused that explosion or why...or if it could happen again.

I've sent a NUCFLASH message through the chain of command and requested reinforcements...but we've heard nothing.  Not a damn thing.  Something isn't right.  I've sent CCs to 7th Fleet HQ and to USS Juno.  If anyone can figure this out when no one wants to, it's her. Elisa's an old friend.

What the hell happened out there?  Weapons test gone insanely wrong?  Or insanely right?  Was it us, or someone else?  Was Icarus there to try and stop it...or make sure it worked?  Was this natural?  Was this an accident, or deliberate?  And why the hell hasn't anyone got back to us?  I didn't really expect reinforcements so quickly, but we should've heard something from friendly forces by now.

Well, I've got to get back to it.  The crew's scared (I am too) and I'm going to hold a meeting.  Try to calm them, keep them on track.  Mourning can wait; right now, survival is more important.  And when we get home, this shop and crew will live up to the motto of this ship.  Because the motto says it all: "The last weapon is truth."

Gentlemen/Ladies,

The next part of this little saga.  Together, the three entries I've posted represent Part 1.  Let me know how it looks, feedback, castigations, threats of death by pressing, etc.  Thanks.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MESSAGE BEGINS

PRIORITY: FLASH

TO: ALL 7TH FLEET CALLSIGNS//COMMANDING OFFICER USS JUNO NCC 92597

FROM: COMMANDING OFFICER USS MIST RAVEN NCC 92835

SUBJECT: CONTACT REPORT-REINFORCEMENTS REQUESTED IMMEDIATE ACTION

CLASSIFICATION: TOP SECRET

Contact Report Begins

Classification: TOP SECRET

Event: Hostile contact.  Reinforcements/Escort requested without delay.

Time: 0057L

Location: 2.2LY coreward of intersection of Noro Sector and Unroth Sector; -2 degrees from galactic plane axis.

Casualties: 4 WIA

Enemy Force: 1xGalaxy-class Cruiser, 1xIntrepid-class Science Vessel.

Enemy Identity: Unknown, believed to be Starfleet forces.

Remarks: Initial contact made at 0005L.  Sensors identified enemy vessels identified as Starfleet based on hull design and approach pattern.  Ships did not ping IFF codes and refused to respond to hails.  Enemy vessels opened fire on USS Mist Raven.  USS Mist Raven withdrew to avoid firing on allied ships and resumed course to Starbase 183 at Warp 5.  At 0032L, warp drive failure forced USS Mist Raven to slow to 1/3 impulse.  Enemy ships pursued and reengaged USS Mist Raven, inflicting moderate damage and 4 WIA.  USS Mist Raven engaged enemy ships, inflicting minor damage to Intrepid-class vessel and minor damage to Galaxy-class vessel before withdrawing.  As of contact report, enemy ships are still in pursuit.  Course has been set for Starbase 643 at Warp 7.5-current max speed.  USS Mist Raven has assumed EMCON posture.

Action:

  1. Request reinforcements from any 7th Fleet assets or USS Juno ASAP.  Assets must be ready for combat.
  2. Request all 7th Fleet assets and Starbase 643 elevate alert posture.
  3. Recommend approaching all non-7th Fleet ships and personnel with extreme caution until situation becomes clear.
  4. USS Mist Raven under EMCON posture; no further transmissions with be sent until arrival at Starbase 643 or relieved by 7th Fleet assets and/or USS Juno.
  5. USS Mist Raven will treat all Starfleet vessels and personnel not affiliated with 7th Fleet as hostile until arrival at Starbase 643.  USS Juno exempted.
  6. Require instruction and action on proposed actions ASAP.
