re: Talking on Vent, etc.

The good news is that we have a lot of people with a lot of good information to share. Even better news is that you all want to share it. Much better than that is the plethora of ideas that are being brought forth to improve the Fleet.
However, the very bad news is that there are far too many people who are not reading the SOGs that have been published to make your ideas become a reality. Those SOGs were designed to enhance your game play and to help the Fleet be better organized.
Today's focus? Ventrilo communications. Please start by reading the following SOG.
http://files1.guildlaunch.net/guild/library/84053/Fleet_7_SOG_Vent.pdf
I'd like to suggest that everyone take the time to read all of the SOGs that pertain to you, your TF / Division, etc.
This goes for old and new players alike. A LOT has changed, especially for Marines.

That SOG is pretty straight and to the point. I don't want to muddy the waters, but I do have a question for clarification's sake.
When in a Task Force channel (i.e.: in a mission), do we report using our Vent handle vessel name or the vessel name for the character we're currently playing? I ask this for those of us with alts. My presumption is that we go with our Vent handle vessel name.

I play many characters as well. It is preferred that we use our main ship and character's name while on vent. It just makes it easier.
So, you only need one login name for you as a player, not one for each character. Consider it your call sign for operational purposes.

re: Alternate codecs for Mac?

Greetings,
I don't know if this is the correct forum to request this, but I am on a Mac and cannot use the GSM 1.6 codec on our Vent server as they are Windows only. Is it trivial to switch to the Speex codec which supports all platforms?

I'll see about passing this up to someone who might be able to do that for us. Welcome aboard, by the way.
