I looked around for a new members greetings section; I didn't find one, but if I missed it, I apologise. Anyway, that being said, greetings! I'm relatively new to the game and after a little bit of research I think this fleet should suit me and my character best of the fleets I've seen. I'll hopefully run into most of you at fleet events, and maybe a little bit of fleet eventing this weekend. Hopefully won't be too long before I find my place in your fleet.

Regards,
J. Winter.

P.S. whom should I apply to for one of those charming forum signatures?

Welcome Aboard. I'm not sure who makes these sigs though I'm still relatively new Happy Everyone is pretty friendly around here and open. What do you like to do in game?

Never given up smoking but I understand it's painful. I once went through the far less testing experience of caffeine withdrawal, and I didn't find it pleasant.

I'm still exploring the game, Mr Marik, lots to find Happy so far I've been doing missions mostly, the odd PvP and recently the omega force pves. I play my character as a scientist and diplomat so I tend to favour those things in assignments/missions.

I do have two questions; the other day, in fleet chat, somebody mentioned grinding fleet marks. How does one win those? A specific type of event presumably? Are they an organised thing?

Second, I'm closing in on level 50. Trying to decide between an odyssey science cruiser and the intrepid refit (I still fly a Bellerophon from when I was captain levels, I love it so much, but it has trouble packing the same punch as the capital ships- though I enjoy the manoeuvrability). Anybody got opinions on this?

not really painful but it noticed i tend to either bite peoples heads off or ignore them completely(wife calls it my being a prick stage, probably doesn't help im bi-polar )
as for fleet marks they're events you can do every half hour, there in the same list as stf and it says event ( I think that's what it said) if you click detail it will tell you witch ones give fleet marks.

If you are loving the Bellophon I'd say stick with the Intrepid. If you go to an Oddysey after flying something like an Intrepid most of your career you are going to get aggravated over the Turn rate. You will also have to rethink your Boff layout going to a Cruiser like that. Of course I also have a personal preference. When I play in STO I generally follow the old SFB adage 'Speed is Life' Stay fast, Stay mobile, Stay aware of what is going on around you and you will have the edge.

That being said you MIGHT consider looking into the Vespa class when it is released if you are looking to buy a ship wiht Zen. It's supposed to be a pretty nifty Science ship.

EDIT: Also there is no rule that says you can't play both ships. IF you are wanting to spend the money and/or dillithium you can fly them both and try them out for yourself. I would recommend getting something like a Star Cruiser with Dilithium before spending alot of money on teh Odyseey though. Just to try out cruisers at high tier.

For fleet marks you go to the pve menu and their all under the "event" category (like Mr.Dm stated). Their names all have something to do with the starbase (best way I can put it).

If you want maximum maneuverability (this comes from a cruiser captain since I started) the Intrepid refit is probably the best bet. The Ody Science Cruiser also doesn't have as high ranked science Bridge officer slots as a "true" science ship. Also "true" science ships have their subsystem targeting attacks and those, imho, really come in handy.

If you want to try a cruiser I suggest buying the Mirror Star Cruiser on the exchange while they're pretty cheap. The star cruiser is designed to be more "science-y" than most. It has the stats of the prime-universe star cruiser, it just has the look of the prime-universe assault cruiser (the Sovereign). Just search under "Reward Packs" and type in "Mirror Star" and you can find one for at least 100k credits.
